GLEN JOHNSTON PEARCY  
Of Barnesville, MD passed away surrounded by his family on May 31, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on July 7, 1944 in Queens, NY, he was the son of the late Johnston L. and Betty L. (Bohannon) Pearcy.He was the loving husband of Susan D. Pearcy for 50 years. Also survived by son Noah J. Pearcy (Mindy Peters); daughter, Rebecca D. Pearcy (Tony Tapay); two brothers, George B. Pearcy (Dona), John S. Pearcy (Cathy); three grandsons, Johnston, Mitchell, and Zoltan.Glen was raised in St. Louis, MO and attended public schools. He graduated from Harvard University cum laude in philosophy in 1966, followed by a Masters of Divinity at Union Theological Seminary in New York City, NY. He was ordained by the United Church of Christ in 1970, then worked in the Civil Rights Movement in southwest Georgia and the United Farmworkers in California. An Academy Award nominated filmmaker, his work focused on social justice, labor rights, and progressive politics. Glen enjoyed fly fishing, whitewater kayaking, and was an active member at his church and enjoyed studying scripture.Glen was loved by his extended family and friends, known for his hearty laugh, integrity, generous spirit, and love of beautiful light. A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday July 2, at the Seneca Valley United Church of Christ, 13421 Clopper Rd., Germantown, MD.Donations may be made to cholangiocarcinoma.org, habitat.org, uccsenecavvalley.org or doctorswithoutborders.org
