GORDON SIEGEL Obituary


GORDON S. SIEGEL, M.D.  
Gordon Sanford Siegel, M.D. passed away on October 20, 2016. Born on July 24, 2916 in Chicago, IL, he served with the U.S. Army's 2nd Armored Division in World War II. After the war, he earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Chicago and his Master of Public Heath from Harvard University. In 1965, he became a Fellow of the American College of Occupational Medicine and retired from a career in the U.S. Public Health Service in 1975 as the Director of the Division of Federal Employee Health with the rank of Captain. He then served as a occupational medical consultant to private industry and the government. A longtime resident of Bethesda, MD, he was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church Norwood, the Commissioned Officers Association of the U.S. Public Health Service, the Civil War Trust and the Napoleonic Society of America. Beloved by his family and friends, he will be greatly missed and remembered for his wit and humor, love of history and penchant for play writing. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Sarah Siegel; sister Adele Stamler; brother Clarence Siegel and grandson Nicholas Walczak. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Rosalind; son Timothy Siegel (Sandra); daughter Barbara Drehmer; son Scott Siegel; niece Susan Stamler; grandchildren Jessica, Sara, Gregory, Anna, Gregory Michael, Samuel, Benjamin and Annie; and great-grandchildren Ryan and Tyler. A funeral service will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Civil War Trust (civilwar.org), Montgomery Hospice (montgomeryhospice.org) or Orbis International (orbis.org).
