'EID GREGORY DAVID REID (Age 61) Award Winning Director's Guild of America (DGA) News Director Gregory David Reid, 61, died Saturday, December 21, 2013, after a yearlong struggle with cancer in his Willingboro, NJ home. Greg was born on January 21, 1952 in Washington, DC to the late Thomas Edison Reid and Annette Chube Reid. In 1988, Gregory married Treena Y. Sammons-Brooks of Glenside, PA who survives him, along with son, Michael, granddaughter, Alexandria and grandson, Michael, Jr. of Montgomery County, PA. His sisters, Phyllis and Ann Reid, and niece, Kiana of Washington, DC also survive Gregory. Gregory attended public schools in Washington, DC and completed his college education at Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. He continued his work in television for NBC-TV Channel 4, in Washington, DC as an on-the-job-trainee and rapidly advanced through the ranks, from Floor Director to the Assistant Director of the "Morning Break" show at WUSA-TV from 1972-1981. For over 32 years, Greg perfected his craft and directed news programs, Sports Final, talk shows, award presentations, telethons, documentaries, general entertainment shows and presidential debates. His love for the industry motivated him to stay current with the latest of technologies and the eventual creation of his own production company GTR Media Productions. Gregory piloted a variety of special programs and served as a mentor to many. His favorite industry accomplishments included: directing the premier show for NBC10 Philadelphia; directing debates for the League of Women Voters: local gubernatorial, senatorial, and Presidential events; producing/directing the initial "Singsation" Gospel Shows, that grew from 5 to over 60 major syndicated markets across the US; directing prime time live coverage of the "MOVE Siege in Philadelphia"; and directing the premier season for Ebony/Jet Fashion Showcase. His acknowledgements included nominations and awards: eight Emmy Awards for Best News Shows, Best Public Affairs Show and Best Entertainment Show; United Press International Award for Best News Show; Emmy Nomination for Best Show; International Monitor Awards Finalist for Best Director; CEBA Award; Ebony/Jet Showcase. Although I only worked briefly with Greg at WUSA-TV9 in Washingon DC, I'll never forget his friendliness, positive demeanor, beautiful smile and infectious laugh. The television industry has lost a very talented, hard working individual. I know he will be remembered fondly by many past & present colleagues including those who worked alongside Greg at Channel 9. My sincere and heartfelt condolences go out to Greg's family and friends.
