OMAR DR. HANAI ABDEL-HAKIM ABU OMAR In loving memory of Dr. Hanai Abdel-Hakim Abu Omar, born July 28, 1939 in Cairo, Egypt. Dr. Omar passed away at 10 p.m., January 17, 2010 at Augusta Medical center in Fishersville, Virginia from natural causes. Dr. Omar immigrated to his adopted country in 1964 and earned his Doctorate in Economics from the University of Maryland in 1968. Dr. Omar taught finance and economics at the University of the District of Columbia for more than thirty years until his retirement in 2008. During his distinguished career, Dr. Omar was a source of inspiration to his students, colleagues, and players. In his youth, Dr Omar represented Egypt as a member of the national cycling and soccer teams at the 1960 Olympic games in Rome. Dr. Omar had a love of soccer and was a certified FIFA referee for many years. He also coached the UDC soccer team for a number of years with great success. Dr. Omar was especially proud of his children and grandchildren and lived a full and happy life. Dr. Omar is survived by his wife, Lalli, three sons, Tarik, Sharif, and Yousri; his sisters Manal, Fatma, and Salwa and numerous family and friends. Dr. Omar lived the life of a scholar, humanitarian, dedicated husband, and loving father. He will be missed by all who will forever remember his zeal and love of life. Dr. Omar will be buried at the national memorial park in a traditional Muslim ceremony.
