Harry Bratt Obituary

Harry M. Bratt was born on April 26,1928 to Eloise and Harry Bratt in Haddonfield, NJ, and died on November 30, 2024, in Easton, MD. Harry enlisted in the US Navy after high school. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1950, and married the love of his life, Dorothy Anne Nickel, in 1951. They were long time residents of Bethesda and were married for nearly 50 years, until her death in 2000.
Harry began his career as a military intelligence analyst at Department of Defense. He transferred to Department of Justice in 1968 to work in research and statistics. He remained at DOJ until retirement, finishing his career as an Administrator for the Bureau of Justice Statistics and then the National Institute of Justice.
Harry was passionate about exercise, especially running. He started running later in life, running the first Marine Corp marathon (and several more), three Boston marathons and qualifying for the Senior USA Olympic Team, participating in Duathlons and Triathlons around the world.
He is survived by his daughter Anne (Greg) of Salt Lake City, son Bob of Fenwick Island, son Keith (Patsieann) of Daniels, WV, three grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. He also leaves behind the many friends he made at Bayleigh Chase, his home in Easton since 2013.
A private burial will be held in Easton, with a celebration of life planned for a later date in 2025 in Bethesda, MD.
In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to BCC YMCA, 9401 Old Georgetown Rd., Bethesda, MD or Talbot Humane Society, 7894 Ocean Gateway, PO Box 1143, Easton, MD 21601 in Harry's memory.
