Harry Maihafer Obituary

MAIHAFER, COL. HARRY J., USA (Ret.)

Age 77, died at his residence in Nashville, TN on Saturday, January 26, 2002. Mr. Maihafer was born August 8, 1924 in Watertown, NY, son of George Maihafer and Loretta Daggett Maihafer. He graduated from Christian Brothers Academy, Syracuse, NY in 1941, and from the US Military Academy at West Point in 1949. As a platoon leader in the Korean War, Mr. Maihafer earned the Silver Star for bravery and the Purple Heart. He received his M.A. degree in Journalism from the University of Missouri in 1966. He retired from the Army in 1969, and from Commerce Union Bank (Bank of America-Tennessee) as Senior Vice President, Director of Human Resources, in 1986. He later authored six books on military history. Mr. Maihafer was preceded in death by his son, Douglas Patrick Maihafer. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jeanne Maihafer of Nashville, TN; three daughters, Veronica Barnes of Charlotte, NC, Patti Thompson and Peggy Maihafer, both of Nashville, and seven grandchildren. A Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, 11 a.m., at St. Henry Catholic Church. Arrangements by MARSHALL DONNELLY COMBS, Nashville.
