Helen Fruchter Obituary

Helen A. Fruchter, 97, of Annandale, VA, passed away on October 13, 2025. A woman of great spirit and intelligence, Helen retained both until her passing.

Helen was born in New York City to Samuel and Sarah Rolnik on January 22, 1928. She attended Abraham Lincoln High School and then NYU on a full scholarship. She studied accounting because she was told women could not be lawyers. She was a very good accountant, but the world likely lost an even better lawyer.

She married Charles Fruchter on August 19, 1950. They remained together for forty-three years, until his passing. His job took them away from New York City, which she loved, to Northern Virginia in 1963. Although the Washington, DC area was very sleepy in the 60s, it grew, and Helen enjoyed her life here.

She was a homemaker and worked part-time as an accountant for several small businesses in Northern Virginia. She also served as Treasurer on the first board of the Northern Virginia Jewish Community Center and was active in the League of Women Voters.

She enjoyed sewing and fabric arts for much of her life, creating he own dresses and beautiful items for her house and friends. Helen was also a voracious reader of fiction, with wide-ranging tastes and a special fondness for mysteries and historical fiction.

Helen is survived by her son, Andrew Fruchter, her nieces Debbie and Robin and her nephew, David.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025 in King David Memorial Garden in Falls Church, Virginia.
