YEAGER

HENRY YEAGER JR.

Henry Yeager Jr. died peacefully on June 28, 2022, at age 88 in Washington, DC. Henry was a retired physician and professor at Georgetown University where he dedicated a long career to research, teaching, and treating patients with a focus on tuberculosis and sarcoidosis.

Henry was born in Dallas, Texas and attended Southern Methodist University and then Johns Hopkins Medical School. He did his medical internship at Vanderbilt University Hospital and his residency at Parkland Memorial Hospital. After his residency, he served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps at Ford Hood from 1961-1963. He began his medical career in Texas before coming to Georgetown in 1972 where he retired in 2012 after a distinguished 40-year career.

Throughout his life, Henry dedicated his time, talents, and gifts to helping others including volunteering with Project HOPE in Nicaragua as well as helping to fund a new wing of a hospital in Mbingo, Cameroon to serve tuberculosis patients. He also volunteered for decades in Washington DC in medical clinics serving the most marginalized Washingtonians. His work was all done quietly and without fanfare, and his donations were all anonymous--his defining traits were his immense kindness and generosity.

Henry married Sandy Yeager in 1976 and they enjoyed 46 years of loving marriage. They welcomed daughter Margie in 1979, who was Henry's pride and joy. Despite an incredibly demanding work schedule, Henry always made time for his family and considered nothing more important.

He is predeceased by his parents Henry Yeager Sr. and Ruth Peeler Yeager, and by his sister Anne Yeager Hansen. He is survived by his wife, Sandy, his daughter Margie (Michael) and his beloved grandsons Jonah, Adrian, and Gabriel as well as numerous dear cousins and extended family members.

A memorial service for family and friends to celebrate his life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Bread for the City in Washington, DC.

Not sure what to say?

Linda D. Lanier, President Sarcoidosis Awareness Network

September 29, 2022

Dr. Yeager was a wonderful human being. The sarcoidosis community owes him a debt for his unwavering dedication and commitment. Dr. Yeager was one of the first to step forward to support me when I established the Sarcoidosis Awareness Network in the metropolitan area to promote awareness of Sarcoidosis. He paid conference fees so I could have a presence at major health related conferences, health fairs and forums. We met over the phone when I was diagnosed severe sarcoidosis and the prognosis was not good. He spent time speaking with me on may occasions and educated me on the disease and how to take care of myself.

I will never, ever forget his compassion as a physician and above all a friend. There will never be another Dr. Yeager. When we participated in conferences together he would always remind me to make sure I listed his full name in honor of his father.

We lost touch and I have been calling the only number I had for a very long time hoping he would answer. I am so disheartened to learn that I was not able to say so long to my friend. Dr. Yeager was a pioneer in the study and treatment of Sarcoidosis and Granulomas Disease. He was one of the doctors that helped to keep me alive and I am so grateful. All I can say now is "God is Pleased" Dr. Yeager your rent is paid by the service you gave to others. Take your rest my friend.
