JACK PADDOCK Obituary

PADDOCK JACK JUNIOR PADDOCK, JR. 1945 ~ 2016 A long-time resident of Camp Springs, Maryland, passed away at home with his family early Tuesday morning, October 4, 2016 at the age of 71, after a struggle with colon cancer and time with in-home hospice care. Jack, "Chip" to his brothers and parents, was born in Franklin, NJ on June 19, 1945 to Jack and Lois Paddock. The eldest of three, Jack adored his younger brothers Rob and Richard. For years, he played clarinet as a member of the Franklin High School Jazz Band, as well as with his own groups, "The Hillside Three Plus Two" and "The Jazzists," playing for many school and community functions, as well as trying out for The Ted Mack Original Amateur Hour. Jack studied History at Tusculum College in Tennessee, and English at University of Maryland College in Maryland, taking his BA in English from Tusculum. In 1978, Jack was introduced to his wife of 36 years, Lisa Lee Fallin, by her sister's then husband and Jack's closest friend and business partner, Jack Spicer. Jack and Lisa were fast inseperable and married in May of 1980. Jack and Lisa had one child, their beloved son, Landon Matthew Paddock. Jack watched with immense pride and joy as Landon advanced at his firm, Culinary Accountants and moved to a home in Washington, DC with his partner, Andrew Silva. Jack loved seeing his son perform as a singer at many DC area musical events. Jack also loved to follow the birth and growth of his many nieces and nephews including Johnathan Paddock, Brianna Piontek, Timothy Robert Spicer, Sonia Marie Hall, Landon Buell, Jessica Myers and grand nieces and nephews Makayla Danielle Piontek, Robert Alan Piontek, Sydney Myers and Madeline Grace Myers. The joy of children meant everything to Jack. Jack worked for over thirty years in many areas of real estate, including 25 years as office manager of Spicer Properties, and as a real estate agent there. Following his real estate career, he trained with Association Montessori Internationale and taught elementary aged children at Beddow Montessori in Ft. Washington, MD and Flintstone Elementary in Oxon Hill, MD. As a teacher he was firm and kind, taking passionate interest in guiding children others had deemed problematic or were prepared to give up on. Later, semi-retired, he worked from home on property appraisal and oversaw the renovation of many DC homes. Over the last twenty years Jack played on and managed the Spicer Properties softball team and helped win many titles in the over 50 and over 55 divisions, winning 22 Montgomery County titles, 10 Maryland titles, and winning the Senior Olympics four times. He also managed and played on the Spicer Properties traveling team, who won over twenty national championships with Jack at the helm. Jack took great joy in following his team and his ballplayer friends - even as his strength waned he would leave his bed to check the softball scores at his desktop computer. As in the rest of his life, Jack was renowned by his team for his gentleness and patience. He was a quiet and strong leader. Jack was preceded in death by his mother Lois and his father Jack. He is survived by his wife, Lisa; his son, Landon; his brothers, Rob and Richard; and his sisters-in-law, Marina and Diane. The boundless well of emotion and compassion beneath his stoic exterior will be remembered by all who knew him. We will take strength from his memory as we took comfort from his presence. Jack's funeral ceremony will be at 2 p.m., Monday, October 10, at Currioman Baptist Church in Montross, Virginia, with visitation the hour beforehand beginning at 1 p.m., and a burial service and reception to follow. Reverend Greg Millikan of St. Paul's Episcopal Church of Alexandria will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome.
