Hello again. I am J.J.'s sister. On behalf of our mother (Rosa Doñes), sister (Jessica Ramirez), brother (Daniel Doñes), bother (Jason Doñes) and myself; thank you. Thank you for thinking of him and posting on his guest book. Thank you for thinking and praying for our family and our extended family.
J.J is greatly missed and still loved. We think of him often. It's amazing to know he touched many lives and made such a great impact during his time here on earth. We know he watches over everyone from heaven with our dad, Danny Doñes and every family member we've lost thus far.
We appreciate all the pictures and stories shared of J.J.
Once again, Thank you so much. We all appreciate your kindness.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Dones Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Jacob D. Dones US Army Sergeant. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.
Sincerely,

I served with JJ for a few days while I was on election duty in Hit, Iraq. He was one of the soldiers providing security for the elections and I was one of four female Marines there to search female Iraqis who came to vote. I just want to say to his friends and family that it was an honor to know him for those few days. I didn't find out that he passed away until December of 2005. I actually sent him several letters after the day I last saw him, which was October 19th 2005. He was a great guy and kept all of us laughing and helped us to not be afraid. I still cry when I think about him and what a shining light he was to all of us on the election team. I had one of our F-18 pilots fly an American flag in their jet over the city of Hit before we left Iraq. I hope that his family got it. I just want to let you all know what a help Jake was to me while I was out there. I will never forget him.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Jacob, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Sgt. Jacob Dones, It's been a couple of years now since you passed and it still feels like yesterday. Ever since you passed away I've been feeling guilty about a phone call I recieved from you that I didn't answer, I am sorry. I didn't pay much attention then but as I later found out that wasnt no ordinary call. My mother called me about 3 weeks later and said you had stop to visit her in Dimmitt and she also said you had tried to contact me and talk to me about re-enlisting in the Army. By the time I tried to call you it was to late you had already signed and on your way back to Iraq. Man I wish I could've talk to you before that just 1 last chat, I wish I would had answer that phone call. Now only memories fill our hearts, your gone but are not forgotten. Stay up kid one day we will all reunite, peace.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Psalm 23
1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
3
He restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
5
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
This is a verse that I have found to be comforting to me during my husbands death. Remember that when it seems that no one else is round, God is still there with you! And he will be your rock!
My daughter,McKaLyne, and I send our heartfelt sympathy for your loss! God Bless this warrior, God Bless those whom serve freedom's cause! They are our true HERO's!!!!

I had the honor of serving with Jacob at Ft. Carson, CO and in Iraq. In all the things I have read that his family has written about him, I wholeheartedly have to agree, that guy was smiling all the time! He was a great person and friend, and I have never met anyone that could throw a grenade as far as he could. Our squad joked he would be carrying all the grenades when we got into Iraq. Jacob also had an iron will. When times were tough it never seemed to bother him. He'd spend those times cheering everyone else up. So long man, you will be missed. Please, to his family and friends let me share the photos I took of Jacob. feel free to email me and I will send them to you.

To the Family and Friends of Jacob::::
No matter how old or how young, one life lost, is one life too many. We are just getting our lives back in order after losing our beloved Granddaughter, A1C Elizabeth N. Jacobson, the First Female Security Forces Blue Beret, who lost her life in Iraq, 9-28-05. She is now guarding the gates in Heaven while waiting for Jacob, and we want you to know that he will not be forgotten and hope that you will be as proud of him for serving as we were of Elizabeth. Without our children this Country would not be what it is today, whether from the first War for freedom until today's wars, we give our lives so Freedom can be obtained. I wish it was different, but unfortunately, it is going to be someone's loved one. May G-d bless our troops, and hopefully, someday Freedom and Peace will reign, so they all can be brought home safely.
No matter what type of accident or act of war, a loss of a child or friend is very traumatic, I know that it isn't much consolation, I hope that you know that there are others that feel your pain.
Elizabeth's motto was "We're only on Earth for a little while, so live life to the fullest and carry a smile."
