Just like everyone else I was both shocked and saddened by the news of Jake's death. Not only was he a great friend he was an ex roommate at Austin Peay State University. I had the pleasure of visiting Jake in Danville a few times when school was out. It was easy to see where he got his great personality from. He has a wonderful family that always made me feel at home. May God Bless you and keep you all.

Jake and I attended Austin P together. Our season was cut short when he was in an auto accident and I had knee surgery. This made us even closer as borthers. I was disharded to learn of his early passing. In the next life we will play again.

I met Jake a few years back at my uncles funeral, from my understanding h and my uncle were great friends. As I sit here in Iraq at Camp Fallujah, I feel like I lost another uncle. When i was deployed to Japan , Jake used to email me and give me advice on what to look for in my militray future , and I and grateful to him for that. He will be truly missed and I know he is in a better place right nw watching over us.

Blessings and Deepest Sympathy to the Burrell Family and Friends:

I am writing from Atlanta, Georgia . While I never had the opportunity to meet Jake personally, I developed a fondness to Jake and his endearing Spirit over the passed several years. Jake became an inspiration to me through his daily devotionals and Bible Trivia.

I came to depend on his email messages, Jake's Wonderful Email Ministry, to get my spirit ready for the day. We can all remember the period of Jake's email silence following 9/11. I worried so much for him. When he returned to the electronic airways, Jake's story was even more inspirational. Jake reminded me of the power of Faith and how our Father protects us through every storm and gives us just what we need to weather that storm.

And then there is Jake's humor! Nothing lifts the spirit like a good belly-deep laugh. Jake provided laughter through his Email Ministry. In addition to the humor, Jake always kept us informed of events in the news worthy of attention and action.

Now, while I experience the loss we all feel today, I find Joy in remembering this great man and his significance in the lives of many. Jake lived the life he shared.

To Anita and Shannon, I lift you up in prayer and I know the Peace of the Lord is with you as you give Jake to his new place in Heaven.

BE Blessed!

I was so very shocked and saddened by the news of Jake's sudden death. We had been comparing notes on what to do during our retirement years. I met Jake at my very first assignment in the Army at the 130th Station Hospital, Heidelberg, Germany. I was the Head Nurse of the Newborn Nursery where his daughter was born and I remember how very proud he was of her. To his family: May you keep these memories of his love for you in your hearts forever. To his friends: Always remember him as someone who would go the extra mile to give a helping hand.

I would like to offer my deepest sympathy to the Burrell family. I fondly remember the last time we last saw each other; smiling, joking, laughing and celebrating the wedding of a very dear friend. This is the Jake his friends from MTSU knew and respected. His sophisticated charm and entertaining wit will be missed but his memory will be with us forever. Because of God’s gracious mercy we all have been blessed to have had Jake in our lives. May his family and friends find consolation in his memory!

A lot of people are sadden at the loss of Jake Burrell. He touched so many people on a personal level. I met Jake when we both started working at Arlington County Government almost 14 years ago. I moved and continued to enjoy the mentorship and friendship of Jake. I am happy to be a part of his e-mail family. I will think of him when I hear the planes go by, the flowers bloom and laughter in his voice. We are all connected by the love he shared for so many people.

My sincere condolences to the Burrell family. Jake was one of the first individuals I met when I first started working at the Pentagon. I remember us discussing reading and then he would bring in books and we would discuss them. Jake was one of a group of people who encouraged me to go back to college after being out of school for 30 years. When I marched he was there to celebrate with my family and I. He met my son who runs track and he would always keep up with his track meets. He talked about his daughter attending Hampton University, my family is there I told him if she ever needed anything they would be glad to assist her. I am also a member of First Mount Zion Baptist Church, Jake introduced me to the young man he was mentoring, Jake was just a great aspiration to everyone he came in contact with. To the Burrell Family:

I was saddened to hear about Jake. I only knew him a short while but he impressed me from the beginning. I met Jake while visiting his mother for the holidays a couple of years ago. He was one of my brother's classmates, and he loved to encourage. I told him I was in school and a computer nut. Jake and I became e-mail buddies. He always sent me news articles on the black communities and he kept me informed on available job postings and scholarships that I could apply for. He said he would speak at my church for a program I'm about to chair. He was a great guy. My prayers are with you. And it's good to know someone who lived a prosperous and fulfilled life.
