James Cameron Castle passed away peacefully November 11, 2015 with his wife Dorothy by his side. Jim was born to Charles and Betty Castle November 4, 1936 in Peoria, Ill. Jim was raised in Rockford, Ill. where he developed a strong work ethic. As a teenager, he participated in Boy Scouts and enjoyed entertaining friends and neighbors with magic tricks. In high school, Jim joined ROTC and with hard work and a congressional appointment gained admission to the United States Military Academy, West Point. This was the beginning of many successes in his life. After graduating from West Point, Jim married Dorothy Gorbandt, now his wife of 57 years. Together they moved to Germany where Jim completed his military duty. Returning to the U.S. Jim started his career at General Electric, at the same time earning a Master's in Electrical Engineering and a Doctorate's in Computer Information Sciences, both from the University of Pennsylvania. Jim's commitment launched him into running Honeywell Bull Information Servicing as president and CEO covering 13 west European countries. Upon returning to the U.S. with his family after three years in France, Jim continued to flourish in business over the years as CEO and President of six different companies all in his field of computer information systems. Jim truly enjoyed his career and carried on providing his expertise as a director on 17 different boards over the years. With the many different companies Jim and his family were well traveled living overseas and across the U.S. in ten different states, finally settling in California. Jim was not all work as he enjoyed traveling with his family, reading, tennis, listening to jazz music, sailing and attending events with family and friends. Jim continued to give beyond his work duties through his philanthropy to West Point, and organizations that touched his life. Jim's genuine and sincere personality combined with his successful work ethic made him a wonderful man to know. Jim will forever be in our hearts. Jim is survived by his wife Dorothy, his son Jim, daughter Tricia, six grandchildren and sister Beverly.Memorial service will be held at the Cadet Chapel, West Point Campus, USMA, NY.
