JAMES E. DAVIDOFF (Age 91)

Of Laurel, MD, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2007 in Windermere, FL. Viewing will be held at FLECK FUNERAL HOME, Laurel, MD on May 11, 2007 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 12 at 11 a.m. at the Orthodox Church of St. Matthew, 7271 Eden Brook Dr., Columbia, MD 21046. Interment services with Full Military Honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday, July 16 at 3 p.m.
Born May 3, 1916 in Vladimir, Russia to the Very Rev. John Davidoff and Alexandra Matison Davidoff. Known ad Jim or Jimmy to his many friends and loved ones, he was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. Jim is survived by Anne, his wife of 67 years and two sons, Gene and his wife, Marge and Al and his wife, Sharyn, and four grandchildren, Andrea Davidoff-Moss, Christina Fullerton, Evelyn Davidoff and Christopher Davidoff.
Jim served with distinction in the U.S. Army living in such varied locations as Tacoma, WA, Leavenworth, KS, El Paso, TX, Annandale, VA, Philadelphia, PA, Dover, NJ, Italy, France, Germany, Korea and Japan. During WWII, he served in Puget Sound Harbor Defenses and later on the general staff of six Army group in Europe. For his management of critically short ammunition supplies, especially during the Battle the Bulge, Jim was award the Bronze Star Medal. Other illustrious assignments included Commander, Forward Support Group and Vicenza Military Post, Italy, a key NATO installation; Division Chief in the Office of Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics (DCSLOG), The Pentagon; an executive to the DCSLOG (programs and budgets) The Pentagon.
In his last assignment as Project Manager for mortar ammunition, U.S. Army Material Command, Jim was responsible for planning, control, and acquisition for all mortar ammunition for the U.S. Army. This included supervising over 70 prime contractors to assure that no units engaged in the Viet Nam war were short of ammunition.
For this final service to his country, Jim was awarded the Legion of War medal. Jim retired and lived in the Montpelier community, Laurel, MD for 39 years. He remained active in civic and church affairs. He was a past president of the Montpelier Homeowner's Association and a lay representative for the Orthodox Church assisting the formation of the Orthodox Church of St. Matthew in Columbia.
Jim wished that contributions be made to his church's building fund, in lieu of flowers. They may be made sent to the Orthodox Church of St. Matthew, PO Box 2003, Columbia, MD 21045.
