JAMES CHARLES GOLDTHORPE
CW4 James Charles "Goldie" Goldthorpe, (63), of Silver Spring, MD, died in a helicopter accident in the Gulf of Mexico on October 6, 2005.Beloved husband of Theresa Ann Goldthorpe; devoted father of Christopher Goldthorpe of Silver Spring MD; brother of Jack Goldthorpe, San Francisco, CA. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Casey Carroll Goldthorpe and his parents, Jack and Emma Goldthorpe. His Army career spanned 30 years with distinguished service in Vietnam, Germany and Korea. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and numerous air medals. He returned to active duty as a helicopter pilot instructor and was the oldest, active duty aviator until his retirement in March 2005. Jim will always be remembered for his love of family, country, friends, and flying. His laughter was infectious, his patriotism was unquestionable and his faith was unwavering. A Catholic Mass and service will be held Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at the Old Post Chapel at Ft. Myer VA at 10:45am. A Memorial with Full Military Honors will follow at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Combat Helicopter Pilots Association (CHPA) Blaise 'N' A Trail for Education Fund at www.chpa-us.org.

To my good friend of many years and many flights togeather. You are a great friend, teacher, and commrad. There isn't a day that goes bi when I don't miss our conversations and especially a cold Bud Light,you gave more then was ever asked. I miss your friendship! Keep a place open on your wing I know the PZ and LZ will be well prepaired and safe for the rest of us! God bless and Gods Speed look out for us.
