You could say I grew up with Pookie and the Spaniels. In the late sixties they used to reherse in our basement. Later, we hung out at "Minnies" on 14th Street, N.W. I hung with and the Orioles, back stage, at many clubs in DC in the early seventies. I would later run into Pookie at various clubs in DC. You will be missed but your music will continue to live on. RIP

Three of my music icons have passed this year; Wilson Pickett, James Brown, and now, Mr. Hudson, Their music was integral to my high school & college years. While "Good night, Sweetheart is a classic, I always love "Three Little Words" and "Peace of Mind". However, I've got all of Mr. Hudson's tunes in my collection.
God Bless, Mr. Hudson and thank you.

As a teenager growing up in N. E., Washington in the "60s my Doo-Wop group and I thought that "Pookie" and the Spaniels were the group to imitate. Pookie was simply the best tenor of them all. Rest in peace legend you will be missed.

Mrs. Dee Hudson, my name is Bettye Jones. I'm the lady who came by your home on Thurs. 1/19/07. I have been a fan of your husband since the "50"s in NY. I was at the Apollo theatre everytime he and the Spaniels appeared. My favorite songs were "Peace of Mind" and "I Know". His golden unique voice brought so much enjoyment and pleasure to so many. I was always hurt to know that he never got the recognition he deserved from his talented writing & singing. But, I was happy when I learned from the paper that he finally received some royalties from "Goodnight Sweetheart". My heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to you and your family. Enjoy the memories as we his fans will do. I look forward to purchasing the CD when it comes out in the Fall and I will make a donation to the Cancer Fund @ Johns Hopkins. Sincerely yours, Bettye Jones, Upper Marlboro, MD [email protected]
