JAMES MARBERT Obituary


James Benjamin Marbert  
Passed away on November 7, 2017 at his home in Fairfax, Virginia surrounded by his family. Ben was born in Greenwood, SC in 1934. He was a 1956 graduate of Clemson University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and played football for the Tigers. He spent his professional career as a patent examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, retiring after 33 years. In his retirement, Ben furthered his education with courses in substance abuse counseling. Ben was a longtime member of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). Throughout his 21-year involvement with the program he sponsored many new members, supporting and counseling them in their recovery from addiction. Ben was a cherished father to Brian Marbert and Stacy Marbert Pruitt, father-in-law to Sarah Marbert and Kirk Pruitt, and grandfather to Kayla Marbert Cotter, Ben Pruitt, and Wyatt Pruitt. He was a loving friend to many including longtime companion Laura Hicks. A celebration of Ben's life will take place on Saturday, November 18 at 1 p.m. at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home, 9902 Braddock Road, Fairfax, VA 22032, www.fmfh.com. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be sent to Capitol Care Hospice.
