Jane Hoffman Obituary

Jane A. Hoffman of Washington, DC died unexpectedly at the age of 63 on November 3, 2025, her dog Freddy by her side. She is survived by her partner of 30 years, Jill P. Strachan, her parents, Joan and Gene Hoffman (Rapid City, SD), her siblings, Billie-Jo McCool, Deb Wilkens, and Bruce Hoffman. She graduated from the University of South Dakota where she met one of her closest friends, Mike Oligmueller. She subsequently earned an MBA from Yale University and retained an affectionate connection to her sisters from the Yale School of Management until her death. Born in Pierre, South Dakota, Ms. Hoffman enjoyed a long and varied professional career, beginning at Arthur Andersen in Minneapolis, MN. She served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Blantyre, Malawi and as an investment officer for the Czech American Enterprise Fund in Prague while developing a keen interest in non-profit finance. In Washington, DC, she worked for The Washington Post, and as CFO at National Cooperative Business Association/CLUSA, Managing Director of Finance for KIPP DC, and CFO at NAFSA/Association of International Educators. She concluded her career as an Associate for Your Part-Time Controller. Both Jane's career and her curiosity transformed her into a happy world traveler. She explored southeast Asia and parts of Africa as a hitchhiker. Recent journeys of a more luxurious nature included: Scotland, Shetland Islands, Ireland, Greece, England, Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, India, Galapagos Islands, France, Switzerland, and Spain. Jane's rapturous laugh and open smile were hallmarks of knowing her and a constant gift to all who encountered her. Jane's deep belief in the power of art to bring people together is reflected in her membership in the Lesbian & Gay Chorus of Washington (LGCW) and its remnant, Not What You Think. Her resonant alto voice graced the music she sang, often as a soloist, and her musicality was bolstered by a strong foundation in music theory. Jane also had the formidable chops to hold her own on the trombone. She challenged herself to take piano, ukelele, painting, and photography lessons. As a member pf the Board of GALA Choruses, she used her passion to fight for LGBTQ+ rights, a cause she held close to her heart. Gifts made in Jane's memory to the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW.org) will continue her legacy of creativity, generosity, and connection, supporting the programs and people she so passionately championed. No services planned.

Yesterday

Rane!!!!!! You will be missed!!!!

I was in Blantyre Malawi with Jane and had a blast being her friend. We had so many adventures, and misadventures while in country. Her laugh was so infectious, she had a way about her that brought sunshine to everyone around her.

We lost a good person way to soon.

Love you rane!!!!!

Dear family and friends,
I attended USD with Jane and Micheal Oligmueller. Though we lost touch over the years, I have loved hearing about her travels from Mike. We have lost a wonderful person.
