Jane Russell Obituary

Jane B. Russell, of Alexandria, VA, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025.
Jane was a proud graduate of George Washington High School in Alexandria, class of 1960. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Richmond Professional Institute (now VCU) in 1964 and later pursued an Associate Degree in Commercial Art and Design from Northern Virginia Community College, which she completed in 1990.
Jane dedicated much of her life to education and the arts. She began her teaching career in Fairfax County Public Schools from 1964 to 1973. From 1977 to 1986, she taught high school art at Darlington School in Rome, Georgia. She returned to Alexandria to teach at Francis C. Hammond Middle School from 1986 to 1987.
Following her return to school and earning her associate's degree, Jane embarked on a second career working for several federal and private institutions including the Farm Credit Administration, the U.S. Geological Survey (Department of the Interior), and TASC under Northrop Grumman from 1987 until 2008.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Eldridge Troy Britt and Frances Trenary Britt of Alexandria, her sister Judy Britt Harris of Arlington, and by her beloved husband of 49 years, Marvin K. Russell.
She is survived by her son, Britt Russell of Alexandria, VA.
A graveside service will be held at Mount Comfort Cemetery, 6600 S Kings Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22306 on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. An online guest registry is available at everlywheatleyfuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Parkinson's Foundation in Jane's memory.
