JANET RICHEY Obituary
RICHEY JANET ANN RICHEY Janet was diagnosed with a Parkinson's like disease nearly 15 years ago. She peacefully passed away in her home on the morning of Tuesday, November 22, 2016. At the moment of release from this world, she was blessed to be surrounded by family members. Janet Ann Welch was born on March 19, 1936 in Lock Haven, PA. She was delivered during the 1936 flood of Lock Haven. Consequently, there was no electricity and the doctor arrived in hip boots. She attened elementary school in a one-room schoolhouse. She began piano lessons at an early age and played for Sunday school at the Dunnstown Methodist Church. She also enjoyed playing for Lock Haven High School music shows. In high school, Janet was a drum majorette with the marching band and enjoyed playing basketball with friends. She also enjoyed watching her high school wrestling team, and eventually was the biggest fan at all three of her sons' wrestling matches. Upon graduation from high school, Janet attended Susquehanna University in Selins Grove, PA. She graduated in 1957, with a degree in medical secretarial studies. She then moved to Philadelphia, PA and worked as a medical secretary. In 1957, she had a visit, in Philadelphia, from Roy Richey, a friend she had known since they were 10 years old. Janet and Roy met in their youth in Lock Haven, where Roy would spend summers visiting family and friends. Janet and Roy married on August 2, 1958 at the Dunnstown Methodist Church. They honeymooned in Finger Lakes, NY. They made their first home in Hauppauge, NY but eventually settled in Smithtown, where they lived for 35 years. They then moved to Manorville, NY. Janet was active in committees with the Hauppauge Methodist Church and served as a Deacon in the Presbyterian Church of Moriches in Manorville. Janet and Roy retired in October 2012 to Westminster in Lake Ridge, VA. Janet enjoyed traveling and reading, and was as an avid Yankees fan. She was a friend to all who met her. Her greatest joy on earth came from being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She lived by example...a life of giving unconditional love, guided by a deep, abiding faith. She is survived by her husband, Roy; daughter, Kelly; sons, Chris (Jeannine), Craig (Karen) and Steven (Heidi); grandchildren, Christopher (Katherine), Sean (Samantha), Emily, Gabriella, Anneliese, Garrett, Hailey and Nathan; and brother, Allan Welch (Carol).
