I actually was online looking for the phone number to schedule my daughters follow up appointment and i am so saddened to come across this. Dr.Hanway operated on my daughter 4 times...He gave us hope. She has had a very complicated medical history and that did not intimidate him one bit. He treated her like an average kid and not as if she were fragile because of her medical condition. We loved him for that. There was no other doctor i trusted more than him. He was the only one who gave us faith and so much optimism at a time when no one else would...he gave us hope that she would walk one day. He said he wouldnt have operated on her if he didnt believe it was possible.He even saved her life one time. He spent countless hours with us...reassuring us...comforting us...comforting her...
Our boys were on the same football team years back and they won the championship. I would see him at the games and practices and wonder how he did it all. He was such a family man...a kind,funny,and very brilliant man and i am truly devastated by his loss. He literally was a God send for our family. I am sorry for the loss his family is experiencing and my heart hurts for their loss...He really did make this world a better place. Our deepest condolences-The Hassan Family

Today I got the saddened news about Dr.Hanway's passing.
I would like to express my deepest condolences to his wife,his kids and his extended family.
Dr.Hanway performed a Spinal Fusion on my daughter Andrea in 2006 for scoliosis.
My daughter is now 23 years old and she is doing very well.
This past February I saw Dr. Hanway at Inova Fairfax where I work. We talked for a while and I shared pictures of my daughter with him.
I am so grateful that I got to see him one last time and thanked him for such a good job,and for his caring heart.
May God Keep you in his Glory for Ever Dr,Hanway.

Dear Hanway Family, we were just informed of Dr Hanway's passing by his office. Please accept our deepest condolences in this difficult time as you continue to mourn your loss. Our 10 yr old son, Isaiah Dove, was a patient of Dr Hanway by way of a Knee injury that occurred last June. Isaiah and Dr Hanway immediately hit it off from day one because of their love for soccer. Dr Hanway often shared stories about himself as a goalkeeper and about his daughter who also played. Dr Hanway put Isaiah at ease immediately with his wonderful spirit and cheerful bedside manner. Isaiah was not allowed to play soccer for nine months because of his injury however, on March 5, 2018, Dr Hanway gave him permission to resume playing his favorite sport. It was the happiest day of Isaiah's life.
On the behalf of the Dove family we just wanted to say thank you for all that Dr Hanway did for Isaiah. He was an amazing human being and will never be forgotten by my wife, Isaiah nor I. He touched Isaiah's spirit in a very special way. Our prayers and thoughts will be with you always!!

I was completely astonished to learn of Dr. Hanway's passing as I had just made a note in my phone to schedule an appointment this week. In addition to being a gifted doctor, he also had such a welcoming personality and gentle demeanor. My son, Isaiah, and I will truly miss Dr. Hanway. On March 9, 2018 I have been told that Dr. Jeff Hanway had passed away. I was devastated when I heard the news. He took care of my son, Randy Aguilar, in 2011. Randy has cerebral palsy and at the time he was at the brink of death. Dr. Hanway had done surgery on his Escoliosis and if it wasnt for him my son wouldnt be here. I am eternally grateful for the pleasure to meet him and have him as a doctor. My love and sympathy goes to his family. He was an wonderful and admirable person. My prayers go to the Hanway family.

My whole family was deeply saddened by Jeff's passing. I met Jeff when he first started at Inova Fairfax Hospital many years ago and was immediately impressed. He seemed to do everything the right way and had his life in perspective. I enjoyed talking to him at mutual NCS sporting events and knew that he was an excellent surgeon, father, and husband as well as being just a great guy. He will be missed by all who knew him.

I am very very sad. He is such a humble and down to Earth man. When my son was recovering from the surgery, he stopped by and sat down on the floor to fix his loose wheelchair footrest. We will miss him deeply.

Went to college with Jeff in Nampa, ID. We both played on the same soccer team and were part of three competing goalkeepers... and we all got along famously, we even lived together for a summer. I'm going to say the same thing you'll see echoed all over this guest book... Jeff was one of the smartest, kindest and most capable people I've ever known. My heart hurts for the family.

While I only met Dr. Hanway a couple of times with my son for scoliosis, I am so struck by this news. Perhaps because my husband died in 2003 leaving me with 3 young children and I truly know how awful this can be. I am so very sorry for your loss. Someone once told me that we take these things one day at a time and somehow that helped. Please know that he touched so many people and will not be forgotten.

He cared for my son after an accident, performing emergency surgery on a broken leg. His kindness and caring amidst our fear was beautiful, His love of people and desire to serve and heal was evident in every appointment. I am deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our dear Dr. Hanway. Dr Hanway just did a major surgery on my son on 03/06/18 and he came to my son's room in children's hospital to check on his progress on 03/08/18 and to hear that he passed the next morning has left my family broken hearted. I can only imagine what his wife and children are going through. Dr Hanway was highly recommend by other doctors for this surgery. He has was way of making his patients feel comfortable and worry free. May the good Lord receive him in paradise. May the lords face bring light to his soul and grant him perpetual peace in heaven

I am deeply saddened by the loss of Dr. Hanway. He performed an extremely complex spinal surgery on my son who has intellectual disabilities. Dr. Hanway's expertise, creativity and genuine caring for my son as a person and for our whole family made that difficult time so much easier for us. I was floored to hear of Jeff's passing. I knew Jeff through his friend at Northwest Nazarene College, John Shurr. I got to know Jeff and hear of his goal to be a doctor and later his desire to go into orthopedics while he was finishing and going off to conquer his goals. Jeff was without a doubt one of the kindest and brightest people I ever met. I can only imagine the grief that the family is feeling at his passing. I truly believe there is something that Jeff was needed for and it was no longer among us. To Jeff's wife and kids, I know he is with you and know that he made a difference while he was here. Sorry to hear about your irreparable loss. My family and I are saddened by the passing of your husband. We know how valuable you are to the world especially Liberia and the West African sub-region, which you've continued relentlessly (rain or shine) to devote family and other precious times to see an end to public health crisis that nearly ravaged the countries in 2014. We'll be remiss if we don't mention the high level of support your late husband gave you during those times of risking your life by fly around the world to make a contribution to global public health. That sacrifice by a father and a husband (stepping into your shoes in your absence) coupled with his love and admiration for others especially children he saved is priceless. Hope your family will find solace in his passing and leave everything to the Lord. It is He, who gaveth and He who taketh.

I was very sorry to read of Jeff's untimely passing. As a pediatric cardiologist who practiced in Northern Virginia for many years I came to know Jeff as a colleague. We had a special connection since Jeff trained at The Hospital for Special Surgery and I at The New York Hospital, both affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical College. Our patients in common always told of the kind, competent care they received from Jeff over the years. I hope that his family will remember that his professional time spent away from them helped so many children in need of his skills and expertise. My condolences go to his entire family along with hope that they view his life as an example by which they may be guided in the future.

Libby and kids, Jeff's parents and siblings, my heart aches for you. This loss is cruel and all too soon. There are no words for this but let me try. I will remember Jeff as an exceptionally kind, generous, smart, handsome and funny man who absolutely adored his wife and children and the life they had built together. I have seen him almost fall off the chair seeing his lovely wife of 20+ years coming down the stairs all dressed up for a party. And you his children, you meant everything to him and he was so very proud of you.
A humble man, his presence made the world a better place for us all. There was the time he earned stripes as a Top Doc in the DC area and was embarrassed about all that attention. The testimonials from parents of kids he operated on show his dedication, exceptional skills and kindness to each child, each family he encountered at work. As a frequent house guest over the years I will fondly remember his generosity, fun and deep conversations over cheese and a glass of wine. The way he and Libby generously opened their home to so many, gave so much. The lovely dinners we all shared. And the early morning lattes he and I shared recently -- me jetlagged and him off to work to help yet another child to a fixed back, hip or foot. I wish I had told him then how fond I was of him and so impressed with the many ways he always devoted himself to being a great father, husband, doctor and friend.
I hope that Jeff will find lots of time to go for beautiful bike rides in the Italy-part of Heaven. And that you Libby, Sasha, Tori, Christian and Sophia will somehow over time find a way to live without him. And that you will feel his presence and love every day, and at times of wedding and graduation celebrations to come.
