Jeffrey Fitter Obituary

Jeffrey Fitter of Potomac, MD was born on February 5, 1965 and died at the age of 59 from Lung Cancer after nine years of battling the illness on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Jeffrey was known by friends and family as Jeff.

Jeff was an energetic and athletic young man whose favorite things in life were family and being active. After growing up in Glen Rock, NJ he went on to graduate from The George Washington University in Washington, DC. His greatest pride was that all of his children fearlessly chased their passions, no matter how unconventional. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday because each year his extended family gathers in the home he grew up in for a night of talking, laughing, and games. In a typical day in the life of Jeff, he dropped his kids off at school in the morning, headed to the pool to swim laps with his good friends, then headed to the office where he worked with his colleagues at Briefcase systems for 29 years. He often reflected on the days he would walk miles during his lunch break catching up with friends and years where he commuted to and from the office via bike.

Throughout his treatment, Doctors were in awe of his ever-positive spirit and determination to live as long and healthy as he possibly could. When he walked into a physician's office, he knew everyone's name and could be found cracking jokes with the whole staff. Even through his chemotherapy treatment, he continued swimming laps at the pool and pushing himself to take miles long walks outside. He loved his life and felt so lucky even on his most painful days.

When asked a question, he always took time to share his logic rather than simply the right answer because he felt strongly about the importance of thinking for oneself. Through these lessons, he shared so much of his mind with the people around him, so his memory and philosophies will live on through everyone who came to love him. Jeff is survived by his wife, Heather Fitter, his mother, Ana Fitter, his siblings Bebe Fitter and Bryan Fitter, and his four children Megan Fitter, Denise Fitter, Jessica Fitter, and Andrew Fitter.

Jeff was my neighbor and one of my best friend´s from Kindergarten thru our college years. We were inseparable as youngsters and had so many great experiences. Sadly we lost touch long ago. I am so sad to hear this news. My prayers and thoughts are with Heather and his family. As well as his mom Ana and siblings Bebe and Bryan.

Very sorry to hear of Jeff´s passing. As referenced in the obit, Jeff would swim with our group several mornings a week at the Kennedy Shriner Aquatic Center. He was such a positive person who always spoke so glowingly of his family. He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
