Jeffrey Schilling Obituary

Jeffrey Young Schilling, of Gaithersburg, MD, born May 26, 1953, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2024.

Jeff was the life of every party. He always had a story, a joke, and a thoughtful word for everyone in the room. His warmth radiated to those around him and his enthusiastic fascination with all subjects was delightfully infectious. He shared generously his heart, his laughter, and his time.

People turned to him for good times, but also turned to him in bad- knowing he would help. He was consistently reliable and caring. These values helped him shine as an insurance agent with Early, Cassidy, and Shilling- giving people reassurance that everything would be alright; even being there for clients after he retired in 2019.

Jeff was a Mason at Temple Noyes Cathedral Lodge #32, where he was a Worshipful Master in 2007. He later served as a Trustee for the Scottish Rite of DC, and was honored with the 33rd Degree of the Scottish Rite.

Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Walter Schilling. He is survived by his cherished wife, Jan Klauschie Schilling; his mother, Joann Young Schilling; brother Timothy Schilling; and sister Cynthia Lee Riggs. He loved his sons Andrew (wife Amanda) and Jonathan Schilling; and his step children, Bonnie and Robbie (wife Sarah) Yates. He absolutely adored playing with and bringing joy to his grandchildren: Clementine, Willow, Katelyn, Evelyn, and Harry.

Jeff was a man of endless interests, hobbies, and talents. Jeff loved music, fishing, boating, woodworking, dancing, and creating things for others. Jeff was an amazing husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to so, so many. He was a gift, he was cherished, and he will be missed.

A Celebration of Life is planned for a later date.

Jeff made me feel so very welcome to the Schilling family when I married his sister, Lee. He was a kind and gentile man with a great sense of humor. He made me feel as though I were the most important person in the room. Thank you Jeff for including me into the family, I'll never forget your kindness and support when I needed it most. Love you, Jeff. Rest in peace, now. Our condolences to Jan from the Ornelas family.

Jeff was a great friend of mine from elementary school and boy scouts and we had a lot of fun. I lost touch at some point and was fortunate to re-connect a couple of years ago, and really enjoyed my two visits with him and Jan, even though we are not nearby. I will miss his humor and friendship... and his funny texts. Heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends.

Jeff was an amazing guy. Lived his life on his terms. Loved unconditionally and gave unconditionally. He was the type of friend that even after a long absence, he would pick up the friendship right where he left off. as thought you spoke earlier that day. Always had a smile and a kind word to say. His exuberance was contagious. He made me a better person.

Thank you, Jeff, for all the good times and the wisdom and all the absolutely stupid jokes that I still make me laugh!

Happy to meet!
