JERRY HESS Obituary


JERRY NELSON HESS  
Died on June 23, 2017 at Doctor's Hospital in Sarasota, FL. Jerry served as an oral historian for President Truman and was instrumental in developing presidential libraries. He also worked in the National Archives at Washington, DC until retirement. He once was an active member in his community where he was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, the Shriners International and Sahib Temple Chanters, a choral group who performed at many charitable events. He was a member of 1st Baptist church in Sarasota. Memorial Service was previously held at Sunnyside Village Chapel on June 28, with burial at the National Cemetery in Sarasota.

Jerry was a great friend and colleague of both my father and myself, at the Truman Library and then at the National Archives. He was a fine guy and was an outstanding oral historian, and his contributions to oral histories in Presidential Libraries are great. I'll miss him very much.
