JOAN CAMERON MITCHELL 1933 - 2020
In the early morning hours of September 21, 2020, surrounded by family - longtime Colorado Springs resident Joan Cameron Mitchell passed away. Born September 23, 1933, in Glasgow, Scotland: eldest daughter to Mary McKenzie and James Aloysius Cameron, sister to surviving siblings, Lewis Cameron, Roderick Cameron, Mary Wilson, and James Cameron, beloved wife for 53 years to the late Major General John Henderson Mitchell, and mother to devoted sons John Cameron, Christopher Lloyd, Colin MacKenzie, and the late Samuel Latham and James. She is also survived by daughter-in-law Kristine Mitchell, and grandchildren Sera, Taryn, Christopher, Cassidy Joan and Maxwell Henderson, and caregiver Emily Olvera. A world class painter, Joan rendered portraits for such luminaries as Kirk Douglas and Surgeon General C. Everett Koop. She entertained Queen Elizabeth, Princess Diana and stood behind President Ronald Reagan in Berlin. Pope Saint John Paul II blessed her at a private audience.
