John's was a life of accomplishment. He was a wartime graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, held a Coast Guard license as Marine Engineer, was commissioned in the Navy during the Korean War, and earned an Electrical Engineering degree. He was a civil servant at both the Navy's Military Sealift Command and U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters, and was employed by a number of prominent maritime consulting organizations. But most of all, John was a loving husband, father and servant of his Lord. He is a friend and mentor to many who fondly remember sharing in his warmth and joy.

Truly a man who knew how to enjoy the gifts life brings to us all and to share them with those whose lives he touched. I remember his annual pilgrimage to Milwaukee for Irish Fest. The memory I have of he, Margaret, Mary and Rick singing along to the Unicorn Song - hand gestures and all still brings a smile to my lips. You will be missed by all Mr Dwyer but rest assured your gentle heart lives on in your children and for this I am very grateful. My heartfelt sympathy to your entire family. Sincerely,
