John Holmes Obituary

Born on October 31, 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio as the middle child of Frederic and Florence Holmes, John graduated from Walnut Hills High School in 1952. After graduating with a perfect 4.0 GPA from Miami (Ohio) University, John attended Catholic University Law School. In Washington, he met the love of his life, Theresa (Terry) Carolyn Holmes. After his Army service and various legal jobs, John was appointed to be an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) for the Department of Labor. In 2000, he was appointed Chief Judge of the Department of Interior's Office of Hearings and Appeals (OHA), the highlight of his legal career. He retired from the bench in 2004 to spend more time with Terry, friends and the Florida sun. Judge Holmes is survived by his wife of 64 years, Terry, his two sons, John (Sherilyn) and Bob (Noelle); and their four grandchildren: Caleb, Hannah, Landon and Jensen.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church in Arlington, Virginia on Friday, December 12 at 11 a.m., followed by a private burial.
