JOHN S. KORDALSKI (Age 94)  
On Thursday April 17, 2014, John Stanley Kordalski of Mount Vernon Virginia passed away with his loving family at his side. He was the beloved husband of Helen (52 years) preceding him April 2, 2004. He was the devoted father to Judith Wyatt, Elizabeth Martin (Scott), Suzanne Parrish (Charles) all of Mount Vernon and Victoria Lynne Meoni (Gene) of Charlottesville and four grandchildren, George (Melissa), Rory, Ellen and Kristen. A 1942 graduate of Northeastern University (B.S. Chemical Engineering), he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps and became a Flight Engineer instructor at Yale University during World War II. His married life began in 1952, with Helen Fortuna in Detroit Michigan where in his career as Safety Engineer for Ford and Chrysler he spearheaded seat belt installation in the auto industry. In 1968 he moved to Mount Vernon for the Army Corps of Engineers then the Department of Veteran's Affairs (DVA) headquarters where he launched the "Get it Together" campaign for auto safety across America. Active in leadership roles throughout his career in the American Society of Safety Engineers, John was devoted to the Polish League of American Veterans as well as Junior Achievement. A funeral Mass will be celebrated April 25, 2014 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8710 Mount Vernon Highway, Alexandria, VA 22309. Burial with full military honors will follow immediately at Quantico National Cemetery.
