John Dennis McMonigle

John Dennis McMonigle of Louisa, VA, formerly of Fairfax, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025. Born in Hazleton, PA, he was raised in Fairfax and graduated from Fairfax High School, Class of 1974.

A retired U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, John served 20 years with postings in Boston, Los Angeles, Albuquerque, Germany, and Washington, DC. He later held leadership roles at IBM and Verizon Federal. He earned degrees from Virginia Tech—where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi—and the University of Southern California.

John was a dedicated volunteer with the Red Cross, the VA, and disaster relief efforts, passionately supporting veterans and military families. An avid traveler and accomplished hiker, he explored six continents and trekked through the Himalayas, the Andes, and the Alps, reaching Everest Base Camp at 61. A devoted fan of the Commanders, Nationals, and Hokies, John's greatest pride was being a loving father and grandfather.

He is survived by daughters Nicole McMonigle (Russell) and Natalie McMonigle (Aldis); grandchildren Scarlett, Oliver, and Lucca; siblings Patrice McMonigle and Kevin McMonigle; and partner Keri Murphy. He was preceded in death by his wife Scarlett, brother Bernie, and parents Anita and Bernie McMonigle.

Visitation: June 28, 5 to 7 p.m. at Adams-Green Funeral Home, Herndon, VA.
Funeral and Burial: June 29, 11 a.m. at Herndon United Methodist Church, Herndon, VA.
