JOHN H. NEWBY, JR., Ph.D. LT. COL. USA (Ret.)
John Newby of Washington, DC, peacefully passed on January 26, 2021. John was born and raised in Norfolk, VA, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School. He also graduated from his beloved Howard University with Bachelors and Masters degrees in social work. He also earned a Ph.D. in social work from Catholic University. John served in the US Army for 27 years, where he held research and leadership positions in social work at several army bases in the Washington, DC area. He was a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. and St. Margaret's Episcopal Church. John is survived by his daughters, Kimberly Wells (Ben) and Amy Collier (Wayne); former wife and close friend, Beulah Newby; grandchildren, Kelli, Dymond, Jordan, Austin, Chelsea and George. A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2021 at McGuire Funeral Home, 7400 Georgia Ave., NW, Washington, DC from 12 noon to 2 p.m. www.mcguire-services.com
