John represented me in a criminal case. I´m sure the only reason I did not get jail time was because the judge was surprised why he was involved in this high profile drug case? He told the judge despite the charges against me he believed in me .... I stop by his office many times after that to say hi and thank him. He also gave me and my family use of his beach house . Rest in Peace John !

Our thoughts and prayers are with John and his family. We met John a couple years ago in Bethany. We were new to the street and he was so kind to us from the first time we met him. We enjoyed seeing him on every trip. He will be greatly missed. We are so sorry for your loss.

I should like to offer my condolences to John's family. It was my great pleasure to know and work with him in Alexandria back in the 1970 and 80s. I was his CPA and friend. I always remember the great pride in talking about his son and various athletic teams. I will have him remembered in the Josephites perpetual memorial.

We only just met John as new next-door neighbors in Bethany Beach, but had several really nice conversations. We are so very sorry for your loss.

We send our thoughts and sympathy to John and the entire Schmidtlein family. John mentioned his Dad so often, with his wit, wisdom and love shining through so powerfully. He cannot be replaced, but his memories will be cherished forever.

Ron and I knew John for a short time here in Bethany; however, he was such a supporter of the beach service and a loyal friend. We were shocked at the news of his passing and only found out through a mutual friend. Please know we send our prayers to you all.

John, Peyton and I extend our deepest sympathy to you and your family. Death is never easy, but it is especially hard for families and loved ones to accept when it is so unexpected. We grieve with you and for you. Our prayers are with each of you.

Mr. Schmidtlein practiced law in my father's building in the 70s and I remember him fondly from my visits to see Dad. He was a friendly gentleman who always welcomed my unannounced visits.

John and Schmidtlein Family,
It was a pleasure knowing your Dad. He was always larger than life. I specifically remember him giving us rides home from Gonzaga soccer games and other events - lecturing the two of us (mostly you) in how we played and/or in what we did or did not do right or well. His style and sense of humor were honest, a bit brash, and memorable - all traits I admire and respect even more as I myself age. You always knew were you stood with your Dad.

Please accept my deepest condolences and those of my entire family. My mother and father loved your dad as a fellow parent and I know he was a resource for them in his law practice as well. I hope you and your family can find comfort and some joy in this difficult time. Our prayers are with you all.
