JOHN EDWARD THRELFALL, M.D., 67, of Falls Church, VA, died of renal failure on May 8, 2007 in Durham, NC.
Dr. Threlfall was born in Lancaster, UK, and was a BA graduate of Emmanuel College, Cambridge University and London Hospital Medical College, M.B., B. Chir.
Upon moving to the United States in 1970, he trained at Georgetown University Hospital where he was Chief Resident of Anesthesiology and an Associate Professor at the School of Medicine.
He was subsequently Vice Chairman and Chairman of the Department of Anesthesia at Inova Fairfax Hospital from 1980 to 1990, and 1990 to 1995, respectively. He was a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the Virginia Society of Anesthesiologists, the Medical Society of Northern Virginia and an Honor Roll member of the Medical Staff of the Inova Fairfax Hospital.
In addition to providing years of medical leadership and service, Dr. Threlfall was a long standing
benefactor to cultural, music, and philanthropic organizations. He was past President of the Beethoven Society of America, a nonprofit organization offering musical programs to the public and support to musically talented young people, and was a former board member of the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz.
John is survived by his brother, Brian Threlfall of Lancaster, UK; four children, K. Victoria Threlfall of Chapel Hill, NC, Veronica T. Wyss of Winston Salem, NC, Valerie L. Threlfall of Cambridge, MA and Edward G. Threlfall of McLean, VA; and two granddaughters. He had been previously married to Muriel Morgan (deceased) and Joan Kunec.
Services private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to support the creation of a commemorative garden at Fairfax Hospital for patients, their families and hospital staff. Contributions in memory of John E. Threlfall, M.D. (please note on check payment) may be made payable to Inova Health System Foundation and mailed to Inova Health System Foundation, 8110 Gatehouse Road, Suite 200E, Falls Church, VA 22042.

Dr. Threlfall was a wonderful contributor to the success of The Beethoven Society of Amer. He gave his ideas, his time, and his energy to its programs and the piano competition.
