Edward Bunting MFA '82 CUA
I was fortunate to be hired as a part time teacher in Aug 1980, and subsequently applied for the MFA. I had studied in a very progressive program to complete a BFA 1978. The choices of studying tradition became a very difficult road to take when the schools ideals were contemporary.
The first day of school at CUA I attended a John's class and it was loaded with everyone from freshmen to graduates. He took each class one at a time and gradually worked his way through each level. I was surprised that he deliberately talked to me dead-last and alone. I began by making a long tirade having always been defensive. He took that away and said just go and paint and teach your class and maybe you can help me with my students. I was shocked but immediately relaxed. It took me until Nov. '80 before started stretching canvases but did about 9. Some were large, I then completed all of them by the end of the semester. Never had I produced so many, all figurative, motif and landscape.
He and Robert Ross helped me to also get a full Penfield Fellowship for both years of teaching. I was launched and ended up teaching in an Interior Design and Architectural Engineering school for about 8 years and running a commercial art business.
None of that would have happened were it not for him. I intend to keep him in my prayers. He was good man.

Professor Winslow continues to influence my creativity and work to this day. I have wonderful memories of his painting classes at CUA. His mentorship and guidance was as thoughtful, honest, and brilliant as his own paintings.

John Winslow was an inspired artist and an inspiring art professor. I had the very good fortune to study under his guidance at Catholic University in the mid 1970s while obtaining my MFA. I learned so much from him about creation, art, the contemporary art world, and making your way through it all. I will always be appreciative for all he gave to me and to the world through his excellent teaching and his wonderful artwork.

Dear Harriet and Claire ~ Remembering the high school days I'd come over to your house to visit and would see your father working in his art studio. Thinking and praying for your family during this time of loss and sorrow.
With deep sympathy,
