Missed you so much Johnetta but I know that you are in a better place. All our walks when Josh and Peedy are in Youth group, Zumba classes, and all the gathering after church and 1A celebrations. I still do listen to your last voicemail you sent me on 05/27/20. Just imaging you in Heaven with your big smile on your face and taking charge. I'm sure the angels of Heaven are taking good care of you.

Tantee Johnetta,

Oh how I miss you! I still remember that first night that we met. You had worked a full day at Dr. Dunn’s Office and you came to see Mommy at the hospital before going home. After about an hour of being there waiting for my arrival, I came into the world and you smiled at me. You spoke your loving words over me. And that was the beginning of my attachment to my Tantee Johnetta. You and Aunty Amelia set up my Nursery so that my parents would have a beautiful space to bring me home to. You helped pick out my permanent nursery furniture. You gave me my first bath. You came to see me 3-4 days a week after work during my first three months of life. You made me love being carried on your back. I could stay there relaxed and quiet for sometimes up to four hours just loving being on my Tantee’s back. You constantly bought me gifts. I am excited that you started my collection of Black Girl books. I will treasure those books forever. You always chastised my Mommy if you felt she didn’t do something the right way when it came to taking care of me. Well I am telling on her because she is not letting me touch the books you bought me. I am only allowed to see them through the bars of my crib as she reads them to me; something about her not wanting me to tear another one. I will miss climbing all over you. I will miss playing with you. I will miss taking naps with you in your bed. I will miss you doing my hair. And most of all Tantee Johnetta, I will miss just seeing you. My mommy will make sure I never forget you. I love you forever.

Johnetta, I will miss your infectious smile and you calling me affectionately Ami...na. ta
If I had known the time I saw you in February 2020 would have been the last, I would have stayed by your side a little longer and told you how much I love you and how much you impacted my life.
Our family chain is broken, a part of us went with you, and nothing seems the same. You were the glue in the family (in my Jeanette's voice) and a vehicle of strength that will be greatly missed. I pray that your non-discriminatory love will be our guide.
Rest on my dearest sister, we love you, but Jesus loves you best.

Amie N'Gaye Rogers

August 25, 2020

You embraced me the first time I met you, and since then, our relationship moved from being sisters-in-law to sisters. I don’t easily confide in people, but you were one person I ALWAYS felt very comfortable talking to and could ALWAYS depend on for anything. You were very humble and had a heart of gold.

I remembered the first time I heard you, Mama, Jeanette, and Amelia had discussions, and I felt uneasy thinking you were arguing. I later got to understand this was a normal thing with no hard feelings because you guys will start yelling in the same breath laugh.

You came to Liberia to celebrate with us, not thinking twice about the battle you were fighting. You were just selfless. Even the neighbors knew when you were around because you would make doughnuts for their kids almost every morning. They were heartbroken when I told them of your passing.

Because of your bright and bubbly personality, our home was also full of life when you were around. You took charge and made sure Boye and the kids were well taken care of, given me the opportunity to find “me time” . Thank You So Much, Johnetta.

Losing you is very hard to bear. My mind knows that you are in a better place where there’s no pain; I just wish I could explain it to my heart. My mind knows you are gone, but my heart refuses to accept it.

I will always treasure all my beautiful memories of you Johnetta. Rest on, my dear sister, and thanks for all you have done. You will forever live in my heart until we meet again.

Johnetta!
Our paths crossed not more than three times, and those were more than enough to discover that you were a Devine Gift to your Family and all that encountered you. I saw you mothered Oliver and Others in your Family in a manner that was enviably admirable. You are deeply missed, Johnetta. I can only pray that the Almighty God receives you in His Bossom and fill the vacuum created in the lives and Hearts of your Family, Friends and Love Ones with His presence. Rest on, Girl, for you fought a good fight. Your memories live on...

I sit here and ponder over how very much I like to talk with you today, there are so many things we didn't get to discuss, I know how much you care for all and how much we care for you, each time we think of you, we know you will miss us as much as we will always miss you. We know that heavenly angels came and took you by the hands saying, "Johnetta Mars-Gibson your home is ready in heaven far above pain, sorrow, hate, sickness, trouble and fear". Sis Johnetta as we commonly called you, have to leave behind all those you dearly loved, all those you still want to have the last talk with, last dance, last phone call, last smile, last celebration and last huge. You had so much to live for and so much love to give, you still had so much work to do, but couldn't. It still seem so much unbelievable that our Lord have taking you from us and your work to mold us in a better family still undone, though your life on earth is past, but in heaven it has begun. Johnetta Mars-Gibson, you will live for all Entinity just as God has promised you. And though you walk through heaven's gates, we are never far apart and for everything time we think of you, your are right here, deep in our hearts.
REST IN PEACE OUR BELOVED, WE ARE MISSING YOU AND WILL ALWAYS MISS YOU. REST ON JOHNETTA MARS-GIBSON, REST ON.

My husband, my son and I all were patients at Dr. Dunn’s office and would specifically ask to see Johnetta. Her laugh, her jokes, her smile made the dreadful dentist appointments worthwhile. Johnetta was always so good to us and took that extra time to ask about our lives and was very genuine. She was one of the most caring people I know. In a fast paced world full of people who are out to take care of themselves, Johnetta was one of the few that took the time to care for others. She always joked about how she was going to teach me how to make Liberian food and now I am sad that I missed that opportunity. The world was a better place with Johnetta in it. I have no doubt that Johnetta is in a better place than we are and she is safe and home with God. My thoughts, my prayers and my condolences go out to your family and loved ones. My family will say a special prayer for all of you because I know it must be hard to lose such a beautiful soul. Stay strong and stay faithful.

Johnetta was one of the few truly beautiful people I’ve known in my lifetime because of her character and her disposition. She was a happy person, always jovial, always smiling and always willing to extend a helping hand. I thank God for the opportunity and blessing of having her as part of my life. To Sylvana, Peedy and the rest of the family, I say stay strong, she’s in very good hands and has received a rousing welcome in her new home. She will be sorely missed.

Johnetta,

The angels looked down from heaven one night.

They searched for miles afar,

And deep within the distance

They could see a smiling shining star

So they took you up to heaven,

As we celebrate your life

And the measure of its worth

While you were on this earth.

I am grateful to have known you

I am privileged to have shared a friendship with you.

You were a wonderful person.

Just know I'll never forget you.

I will never forget the times

We spent together celebrating a wonderful life .

Until we meet up once again , rest in perfect peace.

My dear Johnetta Mar-Gibson, aka “Gibson”, to me; gone too soon. Who knew two years ago would be the last time we spent together? God has a way of working things perfectly in the universe to bringing us together during a major life event after a long time apart. That was the moment when my family moved into a new home; the call came, and you were in the area. In an instant, we were connecting again after some time apart.

Gibson, my college twin sister, I long to hear your wonderful laughter again and seeing that brilliant smile. You’ve left too soon for us to reminisce about our college years, the summer session where we met before our freshman year, the peer mentor program, the dorm life, the men crush, and the professor crushes. We would also remember the height debate about who was the tallest, and how we balanced school and family life for we both were connected very much to our families.

My dear Gibson, I would long for the day when we would have sat down and reminisce about family events we’ve attended, how our children have grown up with careers and found life partners, then the weddings, baby showers, out-doorings, birthdays, and the list goes on. God knows best. He wanted you home pain free, just having that constant smile and laughter.

You gave me an advice that I’ve kept for many years which changed how I do things. You told me that “when you are trying to do something and it’s not going well, it means God’s telling you to wait”. I hear those words now as the day you said them. That advice has stayed with me and has become my motto. When the timing was right, things worked out perfectly and in alignment. God’s timing is always the best and He has called you at this time. Thank you, Gibson, again and again! You were right! My life has been a testimony of that principal and I share it with others.

Gibson, you played a special part in my life with your strength and resilience. You always left an impression on everyone who came in contact with you. My sister, I’m missing you!! The thought of calling, leaving a voice mail and not getting a call back makes my heart break. I know you are among the Angels that are watching over us and we’ll watch over Peedy with the responsibility you gave Gary and I as godparents. Please rest in peace until we meet again in Glory with the Almighty God.

Love always,
College Sister, Mavis

Gunslinger!!!

We met for the first time in 1995 and from then ... not one day of confrontation, not a single day of slight or ego or pride or ...

Married into your family but you would never know if I were a brother or an in-law ...

Kids came along and you generated even more love, how so ...

Everybody you met, you poured your all into ...

You were a brother, sister, friend, confidante, aunt, uncle to everyone ...

How could you be all of those things ...

Everyone thinks they have a best friend in you ...

You were ... just the best and a friend to all ...

Peedee has to know he makes your heart flutter ...

A few questions though ...

Who would do the most hated tasks with a smile moving forward ...

Who is going to sleep on "Aunty Johnetta's Chair" this Thanksgiving, holidays or any of your impromptu trips to NC ...

Who is going to stay up into the wee hours with me to watch Chinese Martial Arts movies for multiple nights in a row ...

Who will think I am never wrong ...

My fellow Bison, thanks for reminding me school was beginning the next week as we drove to the beach ...

Unselfish, a heart of gold, firecracker, energy, strength, hips for days ...

Still a few questions ...

Why? How? What will we do? Who will lay the law down and dare any one to cross the line?

Height means nothing ... you were the shortest in the room but the biggest heart

Don't tell Peter, Paul, Abraham, Moses, Jesus ... and you better don't tell God ... how to do their job because I know you may attempt to suggest a few things - shhhhhhhh - keep quiet this time around, they know all, especially the J and G guys

Farewell or FlyWell, you showed us how to capture a day and suck all the substance out of it ...

Farewell or FlyWell, you are going to be missed ...

Farewell or FlyWell, I love you!

Farewell or FlyWell, go on and rest well

Farewell or FlyWell,

I see you got your wings ...

Johnetta my Darling Niece/ Daughter, it is with a Heavy Heart that I write this tribute. Who would have thought that you of all persons would have left us in the manner in which you did?
It is difficult just thinking of you as one who has transitioned, and one who's voice and laughter we will never hear again.
WOW!! This difficult.
I had always prayed that GOD Our FATHER would use you as an opportunity to show others that HE is still doing Miracles, and that HE could and is still in the Healing business.
As a Niece/ Daughter, you were always awesome, pleasant, and supportive, loving and kind.
We shard many laughs and tears together.
As I had expressed to you when Your Beloved GrannyDear passed away, you did your part and played your role well as her eldest Grandchild.
You made sure to come over and do her nails, wash her hair, and either braid it, or style it.
Mummy looked forward to coming to see you for the cleaning of her teeth.
When you were my roommate in Raleigh, we had a blast.
Boy did you work me when you were at N.C.State.
The moving you in and out of the dorm every semester, and sometimes even Mavis.
My Beloved Johnetta, thank you for being such a dynamic personality in our lives.
I enjoyed your straightforward approach to dealing with issues.
You are a Gem!!
Thanks for loving me, your favorite Uncle as you would often tell me.
" Jaws" you fought a good fight.
You fought with every fibre of your being to the last breath.
Throughout your battle, I had never heard you complain once!!
You were focused on defeating your illness and returning to perfect health, and I prayed to GOD along with you.
My heart aches for you My Dear.
GOD saw it fit to wrap HIS Loving Arms around about you and take you from labour to reward.
You worked in HIS Vineyard, and because HE Loves you, He knowing that you were tired, called you HOME.
You share a very Special place in my Heart along with Granny Frances, GrannyDear, Uncle Fred, GrandDaddy, Uncle John Payne, and Aunt Helen.
Rest In Perfect Peace Yah!!
Until we meet again over the JORDAN River.
Be blest!!

Johnetta, who would have told us that our trips would end so soon. We miss and will love you forever. <br />
