Jon E. Peterson

Jon E. Peterson lived in Northern Virginia for over 40 years. He was born in Brockton, MA, and was the only son of Rutger and Martha Peterson. His father's career as a civil engineer gave him the opportunity to live throughout New England and parts of Canada before his 18th birthday. He attended Kansas State University, where he joined AKL, participated in various clubs, and his involvement as a photographer for his school newspaper grew into a lifelong hobby of his. Later on, he graduated from Navy OCS and sailed around the Pacific until he switched gears to complete a Master's program at the Wharton School of Business. He worked as a civilian real estate appraiser at Bolling Air Force Base before his retirement in June 2004.



In his spare time, he enjoyed the company of his wife Myriam; his two daughters Catalina and Erika; their spouses, and his three beautiful grandchildren. Over the years, Jon was involved in taking his therapy dog Baxter to different communities, had taught English twice a week to adult immigrant students at Annandale NVCC, volunteered for ECHO in Springfield, and was involved in his daughters' extracurriculars. The Red Sox and Patriots were his teams. Linguistics and the evolution of language fascinated him, and he indulged in clever puns, wordplay, doublespeak, and crossword puzzles.



Most of all, Jon was a sweet-spirited gentleman curious to anyone's journey. He enjoyed listening to stories and was a wonderful companion to be around. His sense of humor and appreciation of Monty Python would allow me to share that on December 24, 2023 he passed on, is no more, has ceased to be, has expired and gone to meet his maker, has shuffled off this mortal coil, joined the choir invisible, and is now ex-human. A service will be held in his honor on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jefferson Funeral Chapel in Alexandria, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
