On December 21, 2015, the Honorable Jonathan R. Steinberg, of Potomac, Maryland. Beloved husband of Shellie Steinberg; devoted father of Andrew (Adriana) Steinberg and Amy (Len) Gross; loving brother of David Steinberg of Merion, PA; treasured grandfather of Heather and Corey Gross, and Noach, Avi and Gavi Steinberg. Jon grew up in Mt. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Cornell University in 1960 and his Bachelor of Laws degree cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania School of Law in 1963. At the law school, he served as Research and Note Editor of the Law Review and was a member of the Order of the Coif. Condolences to Shelley, Andrew and Amy -- to whom Jon was so devoted. We staffers had instructions to interrupt almost any activity for a call from you.

Jon was to this day, the most influential boss I've had. He led his staff both by example -- in his unstinting effort for excellent and effective work -- and by instruction. I'm sure I am not alone in saying that he shaped my standard for what it meant to be a professional and take responsibility for not onlywhat was assigned, but what should have been assigned. Both demanding and encouraging, he helped a generation of young staffers come into their own.

Rest in peace.

I was sorry to hear that Judge Steinberg passed away. I clerked for Judge Ivers at the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims from 1991 to 1993 and enjoyed working with Judge Steinberg at that time. My condolences to his family.
