Jose L. Ruiz Obituary

Last December, Jose Ruiz called his mother, Juliana, to say a "big, big present" was on its way. A few minutes later, the doorbell rang. Ruiz was at the door, grinning. "Here's your present," he said, wrapping his mother in a hug. Ruiz, 28, of Brentwood, N.Y., was killed Aug. 15 by small-arms fire in Mosul. He was based at Fort Lewis. Ruiz attended the New York Institute of Technology and had worked as computer network engineer in New York but was inspired to join the military after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. He is survived by his wife, Alexa, and their 9-month-old daughter, Liana, who met her father for the first and only time last Christmas. "When he first met her, it was glory," said his stepfather, Eduardo King. "He never let her go." Ruiz was looking forward to coming home in six weeks, and had bought a house in Washington state. "I was confident every second of the day that he was going to come home to me," his wife said. "But I thank God for giving me the time he gave me with him and for giving me a baby with him. That's his mark on the world."

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Ruiz Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

To Jose's family,

I didn't know Jose but I did go to the same high school and college. I was caught by suprise on 10/27/09 at Southside Hospital when Jose' wife Alexa, beautiful 5 year old daughter and family came to take a picture of me and my new baby boy. My heart goes out to his wife, daughter, parents and the whole family. It was so loving that they took the time to come to the hospital while they are grieving from the loss of their loved one. I was speechless when they gave my family so many nice clothes and toys for the baby. I want to thank you and tell you that it was greatly appreciated. I pray that your family will endure during this difficult time. When you get a chance please read in your bible John 5:28, 29 and Revelation 21:3-4 it gives us comfort from the scriptures that one day our loved ones that fell asleep in death there is a hope of a resurrection and one day there will be no more death, sickness or pain. "God will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” and we can put faith in the scriptures because God cannot lie. (Titus 1:2) "upon the basis of a hope of the everlasting life which God, who cannot lie, promised before times long lasting."

Sincerely
Beth

Hey Jose,

Been thinking about you a lot lately. Seems that you have been getting a lot of company lately. It eases me to know that they are with you. I miss you so much. I was thinking about the first time we shaved your head and you put baby lotion on it and you had that sunburn. Even that you took with such grace of character. I miss you. All that time we had and it still wasn't enough. Love you.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I then noticed that is the month of your dear loved ones passing.

If you would please email me,

I am so touched by reading the comments everyone has left. I am so sorry I never got the chance to know him. To his wife and child- I am sure he is proud of how you are keeping his memory alive. May he rest in peace.

August 7, 2007

I don't pretend to know what to say or do that would bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON (KIA on 07/06/07) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I'm sure she's updating everyone. She was a lovinig sister and I'm so gratefurl that we were what sisters are suppose to be like before she left. Tell her I truly miss her and that I know what she wanted me to do.
She was loved more than she thought and that's why we chose a funeral. She told her great-grandson Justin "she wanted her ashes blown into the sky and that everyone no† be sad but happy." Justin will have her gurad dog by his side and have all his memories. He is truly missing her and will cherish her love for eternity. Today, the day you were born 30 years ago, is the one I hold dearest to my heart. You are not here, but you are always around. You were God sent and your soul lives on. I still remember you as a child, and all the child like things kids do. As a man I didn't know you as well, but do know that you were a great person. A street was named after you near Brentwood HS and a flag was given to the principal, by our government to fly in your honor. You are not fogotten. You legacy lives on for Liana.. I love you always.

Dear Family and Friends,

I wanted to inform you of a special event taking place to honor my beloved husband.

On August 15, 2005, Spc Jose Ruiz (US Army) was killed in combat in Iraq. To honor his memory, a street leading up to the Ross Center at Brentwood High School, his alma mater, will be renamed Spc Jose Ruiz Avenue. I hope you will join me at 11:00am on September 25th at the main entrance of Brentwood High School, South 5th Avenue, Brentwood, NY 11717 for a ceremony and unveiling of the honorary street sign bearing Jose’s name.

The legacy of Spc Jose Ruiz’s courage and compassion will now adorn the path students take each day to and from school. This street will celebrate Jose’s memory, and insure his place as a role model of valor for all generations of Brentwood students to come.

I hope you can join me to honor the greatest sacrifice of one of our community’s bravest. Please RSVP to Caryn Lewi in my office at (631) 951-2210.

It is short notice however I wanted to make you aware of what is going on.

Jose's memory will always live on. Help support our Troops!!!

I'm so lost at this moment and will pray that all will

be well soon and he will recover quickly. It's in God's hands now. I love and miss you so.

Dear Little Man,

Just wanted you to know I'm thinking of you today, and on Memorial Day, meant to write this, but couldn't. Yesterday was your grandmother"s 71st. birthday (and the 49th. Puerto Rican Day Parade). Papo, his family and I went to Schenectady, her new home to surprise her. We had a nice visit with her. She speaks of you often. I saw Liana and Alexa two weeks ago. Liana is the spitting image of you when you were her age. She is doing well and was running around and chasing my dog Forest. Your dad Jose, was in another world, just so happy to be with her. She is so loved by all of us. Looking forward to see her grow into a young lady. Will let you know as she does. We all miss and love you so much.

Hello I want to tell you that SPC. Jose Ruiz is in my heart will not leave. I have read a lot about this wonderful Hero. I have never met him but have served him. I am a MEDEVAC Pilot for the New Hampshire National Guard. I spent 12 months in Mosul ready at a moments notice to help our soldiers. My crew I flew with was a very well trained dedicated bunch of guys. I know and will not forget Jose because of a mission that I had to respond to a soldier that had been shot. I was told he had been brought in on a Stryker and it was very serious. The Stryker had got him to the Aid Station and SPC Jose had gone to God at that time. When we arrived I was told I was no longer needed, but I knew his fellow soldiers where there and as sad as I was. We took SPC Ruiz in spite of being turned back to base. It was time for him to go home and we felt part of him in our souls. I willl never forget this BRAVE MAN, I CAN NOT !! God Bless all who he has touched and remember he is not forgotten. Thank-You

You, Alexa, your baby, your parents, Xaxia, Damaris, Janette, Tito, Ramon, Monchi, Dennis, me, my mom, my kids, Jose, the entire family!! Anyway, let me say so long, because we will all be united when our time comes and we meet you up there. Some of us might take longer than the others, but believe me, Jose, we will see you again. forever. The day you were born to leave your mark on this earth. You the srtong, loving and honorable soldier. You,who fought for what you believed; freedom for a country not yours. You, who showed compassion to and uplited the spirits of your comrades. You left you mark not once, but again when you gave us your daughter Liana. She will not have you in her life, but will know that you sacrificed your life so that we all could hope to live in a peaceful world. You have made us all proud to have the world know that YOU are part of US. I love you and lastly will always have the memory of our first dance.

I have the strength to say a few words now:

Jose's last voice mail to me was:

"I want you to know that I love you and have always loved you. You know they ask me here what is my greatest fear, its not the bullets and death that surrounds me. What I fear the most is loosing you. I can't bear to be seperated any longer it hurts and pains me. I need you so desperately every day the bear inside takes over just a little bit more. The bear sleeps deeply when I'm with you. I need you. I need your love. I need your heart. I need your touch. I need your hope. I've never needed you more then ever Alexa. I cant wait to enjoy our family and be together happily in our new home. I miss you and love you with all my heart and soul."

To My Family and Friends: Thank you all for the support you have given me for this has been the greatest loss of my life and I know things happen for a reason and god gives us only what we can handle. I am strong, I am a survivor and I will get through this.

Until our paths cross again...

Jose our love will transcend all time... and nothing, noone not even death can break that. I will always and forever be your wife, bestfriend and soul mate. You have made me truly and ultimately happy.

To Alexa,

My name is Sara, my husband was Jose's squad leader. I attended the memorial service last Monday here at Ft. Lewis. I just wanted to let you know the service was beautiful and the church was full of all of us who wished to honor your husband's life and grieve his loss. I know all too well the dread of hearing that knock on the door but I cannot imagine the pain of actually hearing it. My heart aches for you and your daughter. My husband and I will never forget Jose's sacrifice, your sacrifice or that of your family. Our prays are with you now and always.

Although we have never met, he was my family and so I was sad to hear of his passing. His heroism is a tribute to our family and country. He was close with my sister, Gloria, and she speaks fondly of him. I wish his family peace and know that he is in a better place.

I was heartbroken to hear of Jose's death. I haven't seen him since he was a baby but I remember going over to Jose's house to see his new baby boy and I remember how excited and happy he was. My prayers to the entire family and especially to Alexa and her daughter. I am Fernando Soto's eldest daughter and Jose is my cousin. Please know that we are praying for you and how blessed everyone was to have known him and to have had him be a part of their lives.

My deepest Condolences to the Ruiz/King FAMILY!

I live a block away from them and they are wonderful neighbors and welcomed me and my daughters with welcome arms

I did not know their son Jose personally, but

his family has shown me much love since I moved into the neighborhood

I know for him the saying The Apple doesn't fall far from the tree is a true testament to who he is.

He protected his family as well as

the rest of us by serving his country,to make sure our freedoms stay in tact and we sleep safe at night

and that says much within itself!

His father called him their Hero

He is Ours as well

Jose Ruiz will be forever a Treasured Memory!

I love You Julie! Stay Strong

My prayers to the Ruiz/King Family. Although I never met Jose I feel as though I knew him. If Jose was an indication of his mom and dad I can safely say he was a man of Integrity and great Honor. The Kings have proven to be a Holy Spirit filled family and a great blessing to us at the Central Islip Church of Christ. Jose sits at the Lords table now where Jesus ascended .Jesus indicated in the Scriptures that He went on ahead to prepare that place for us. Hold on to Hope Alexa and family because the Lord has also made a way for you too to enter. I pray the Holy Spirit will lift, guide and protect you all the days of your life. God Bless you.
