I was greatly shocked to learn of Joe's passing when my wife Joy and I went to Washington, D.C. last Christmas. I had hoped to meet with Joe and Marsha and catch up on things. I had met them around 1974 through my first wife Laura, whom I lost to a heart attack. It was always great fun to talk to them and get Joe's views on people, politics, lawyers, doctors and everything else under the sun. It was like talking to a mixture of Dick Cavett, Groucho Marx and Rodney Dangerfield. I was unable to learn of Marsha's whereabouts then, and hope to contact her again.
Love,
Steve

Dear Marsha and Jillian,
Our condolences to you both. We just saw the notice of Joe's death today. Joe was our real estate hero and savior when we first came to Washington DC, but then became a wonderful friend--thoughtful, optimistic, gentle, knowledgeable in so many areas and always ready to help or just hang out. We loved Joe and we will miss seeing and talking with him, whether in DC or NYC. Our thoughts are with you both.

Joe helped us buy our house 5 years ago. He was helpful and friendly and funny, and we were looking forward to his helping us sell the house whenever that time came. He helped us through the confusing and competitive world of DC real estate and we were delighted to keep inviting him to the house long after our business relationship was concluded. I'm so sorry he's gone.

Joe was a beloved colleague and friend, whose generosity, kindness, sense of humor, love of life, friendship and ready smile, among many other wonderful traits, will be deeply missed. Although he would roll his eyes at the mention of such things, his passing leaves a little tear in the social fabric of humanity.

Dear Marsha,
It was with much sadness that we learned of Joe's death. Please accept our sympathy on the loss of your husband, Jillian's father, and an important member of the extended Gentner-Berman families. We lost touch with you and Joe when Dan began working internationally more than two decades ago. Yet we have so many fond memories from the FEC days and an apartment on Capitol Hill in the early 1980s to law partner, hospital executive, and parenthood. Joe was a wonderful person; he was funny, thoughtful, and kind. He was a stand-up guy. He charmed us with his stories and his generous and outgoing personality. He was special. He will be missed. Rest in peace, dear friend.

Dear Marsha and Jillian, the Fingerhut hearts are aching for you. I only knew Joe since Marsha joined the firm, but I can honestly say Joe felt like an older brother to me. A quit wit and always upbeat. He was always the funniest guy in the room. The world needs more people like Joe. Let us all hope Joe is now in a better place and that you two will find comfort in knowing how much everyone loved him. Sincerely, Eric
