JOSEPH CROPSEY (Age 92)
On Sunday July 1, 2012. Husband of the late Lilian Cropsey; father of Seth (Mihaela) Cropsey and Rachel (David) Simons; grandfather of Daniel and Julia Simons and Gabriel Cropsey; uncle of Spencer and Peter Levy; Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago; Veteran of the allied campaigns in N. Africa, Sicily and Italy during WW II. Memorial service Wednesday July 11, 2 p.m. at Adas Israel Congregation, 2850 Quebec St., NW, Washington, DC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Rockville Nursing Home, 303 Adclare Rd, Rockville, MD 20850 or JSSA Hospice, 6123 Montrose Rd, Rockville, MD 20852.

I loved your father as a professor. He was fascinating to watch lecture as he so carefully guided us through a classical text. He was a delightful man with a clear sense of what is right and was willing to act on it. He will always hold a special place in my mind and heart. He epitomized and displayed the things that transcend time - modesty, decency, gentlemanliness, and serious, deep penetrating thought. As such, he too, transcends time in his way. Yet I will miss him very much.

As a sophomore in college I had the pleasure of taking Professor Cropsey's Modern Political Thought class. Changed my entire intellectual frame of mind. A wonderful professor and human being.
