JOSEPH GUTHRIE DOWNING "Joe" (Age 83)
Of Locust Grove, passed away Friday, July 17, 2015 at Culpeper Regional Hospital.Joe attended George Washington University and the United States Army Officers Candidate School and proudly served his country as a U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Corps of Engineers. He later retired to Lake of the Woods from Fort George Meade, Maryland.Joe is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Walker Downing of Locust Grove, VA; step-sons, Gregory Hoisington and wife, Lynn of Sevierville, TN; Perry Milo Hoisington of King George, VA; and John Stuart Hoisington and wife, Gloria of Bend, OR.Joe is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Maupin Downing and Katherine Lansing Guthrie Downing; and brothers, Raymond and Charles Downing.A Memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Fredericksburg. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Culpeper National Cemetery, Culpeper.
