My heart goes out to Mr. Gartlan's family at this time and in the days ahead. I was one of the nurses who cared for him several times on the joint replacement floor. I grew very fond of my "buddy Joe" and loved listening to all of his great stories, He would explain all the newspaper articles to me and always ask my thoughts on the article. He was such a family man and gave me much great advice on ways to raise my four children.. I would get after him when I learned he was back at hosp after dislocating hip from attending a meeting to soon or getting up into his jeep. I told him he needed to try to stay out of trouble, but he did what he wanted he was stuburn. I loved Joe for he tought me so many lessons on life which really helped me grow spirtualy. I will always remember his smiling face and big hugs. he was such a caring person with good faith and he touched many hearts.

Senator Gartlan was an inspiration to a generation of social activists. His deep commitment to care of the poor and disadvantaged, mentally ill, and victims of crime, in the face of indifference and opposition remains a model of leadership for generations to come.

Please accept my deepest sympathies. Please be encouraged by theses words at Psalms 37:11 But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth and they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.

Dear Folks
Please accept our sincere sorrow for Joe's passing. The Commonwealth lost a treasure of governance and we will miss his charming attitude. Few performed as well.
May God rest his soul.
