Dr. JOSEPH ALFRED LeBLANC, MD  
Of Bethesda, Maryland died March 7, 2016, at age 82. Born in Gardner, Massachusetts, Dr. LeBlanc received his bachelor''s degree from the then French speaking Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1956 and earned his medical degree from Loyola University of Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine in 1960. Dr. LeBlanc married his beloved wife of 55 years, the former Jacqueline Mary Schwartz of Chicago, on May 30, 1959. Dr. LeBlanc was a member of the class of 1964 at the Menninger School of Psychiatry in Topeka, Kansas where he was a resident in the Veterans Administration. After graduating in June 1964, Dr. and Mrs. LeBlanc moved to Washington, D.C. where Dr. LeBlanc began private practice in Bethesda. Dr. LeBlanc was a member of the Washington Psychoanalytic Society from 1979-2011 and a teacher at the Washington Psychoanalytic Institute and at George Washington University Medical School. He was Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Suburban hospital and worked on committees at Suburban and Sibley Hospitals. In 1994, Dr. LeBlanc was a founding member of the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis. As a volunteer, Dr. LeBlanc provided psychiatric opinions supporting legal advocacy for veterans.Dr. LeBlanc was a member and friend of the Church of the Little Flower parish community for over 50 years. He had a "joy de vivre'' throughout his life and enjoyed spreading his love for his first language, French. Dr. LeBlanc also pursued a passion for music. He was broadcast on the radio in the 1950''s playing saxophone and he studied at the Berklee College of music. He was an avid tennis player and member of Kenwood Country Club for over 55 years and enjoyed sailing, reading, teaching and travel. Dr. LeBlanc was predeceased by his wife, Jacquelyn Mary LeBlanc, parents Joseph and Adrienne LeBlanc and by sisters Rachel LeBlanc, Beatrice Adams, and brother, Roger LeBlanc. He is survived by sisters Estelle Ford, Corinne LeBlanc and Lucille Slack, his daughter Julie LeBlanc Pohl, (Daniel), granddaughters Katie, Claire and Emily Pohl, his son John Alain LeBlanc, (Leslie) and grandsons Benjamin, Graham and Zachary LeBlanc. Dr. LeBlanc''s passion and empathy for people showed not only in his practice, which he continued well into his seventies, but especially in his interest in and treatment of others. He will be remembered and missed by all.Friends and family are invited to the visitation at 11 a.m. on April 25, 2016 at Church of the Little Flower, Bethesda, Maryland with a funeral mass following at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Al''s memory may be made to the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation or The Brain Injury Association Of America.
