On May 19, 2005 in his native village, Kriva, Orava, Slovakia, where he had been residing since 1996. Former resident of Washington, D.C., 1953-95. Beloved husband of the late Renee Mikus, nee Perreal; father of Isabelle Mikus-Klemm and grandfather of Max Klemm, both of Pregnin, France; brother of Helen Stipkala (age 99) of Lyndhurst, OH; uncle of Joseph, Frank and John Stipkala and Ethel Nalepka, all of the Cleveland, OH area. He earned law degrees in Slovakia in 1934 and at George Washington University in 1966. Diplomat in the governments of Czecho-Slovakia, 1934-39, and Slovakia, 1939-45. Author of many books on Slovakia. Longtime activist for Slovakia's independence. Former professor of history and international relations at St. John's University, Jamaica, NY and Georgian Court College, Lakewood, NJ. Catholic funeral Mass was celebrated May 22 by Bishop Andrej Imrich at St. Jozef Church, Kriva, Slovakia. Interment at the church's cemetery.
