Julie Ann Shipe

Julie Ann Shipe (née McLellan), beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully in Columbia, Maryland, May 19, 2025, at the age of 88.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Richard Xavier and Kathryn Fitts McLellan, Julie's life was defined by compassion, curiosity, and deep commitment to her Catholic faith. After graduating from St. Agnes School of Nursing in 1958, she dedicated herself professionally and personally to a life of care for those around her.
An energetic woman with many interests, Julie was especially fond of children, animals, gardening, travel and nature. Her spiritual devotion to the Catholic Church was reflected in her many years of volunteer work. Her natural sense of wonder was evident to all, and as her best friend from nursing school once stated, "Julie was whimsical."
Julie was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-seven years, Archie Kendall Shipe, Jr.. She is survived by her three daughters: Mary Lavin (Charles) and their children; Mack, Desmond, and Lucia; Theresa Buffat (Laurent) and their son, Chip; and Dorothy Clancy (Brian) and their daughter, Dorienne. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren and the countless lives she touched with kindness and love.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A private Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at The Shrine of Saint Anthony, with burial at Arlington Memorial Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a charity close to Julie's heart was St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
