Katherine Dollymore Obituary

KATHERINE ALDWORTH DOLLYMORE
On Wednesday May 4, 2011 of Charlotte, NC, passed away of Lou Gehrig's Disease. Kathy was born in Stillwater, OK, March 10, 1962, daughter to Catherine K. Aldworth and the late James Aldworth. She was a proud graduate of Clemson University in 1984. Most recently, she was employed by Gap Inc. for 15 years as a District Manager of Gap and Baby Gap retail stores. The proudest achievement of Kathy's life was giving birth to triplets in 2002. Kiley, James and Caroline were the lights of her life. In spite of the dreadful illness that had stricken her, Kathy proclaimed Mommy as the crown jewel of her life. As well as her children and her loving mother, survivors include her beloved husband, John L. Dollymore and two loving sisters, Betsy Franks and Susan Aldworth. Relatives and friends may call at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd., West, Silver Spring, MD, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Bernadette Catholic Church, 70 University Blvd. East, Silver Spring, MD. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carolina's Neuromuscular/ALS Center, 1000 Blythe Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28203. www.collinsfuneralhome.com

My heart and sympathies go out to the family of Katherine Dollymore for the loss of your beautiful mother, wife, daughter, and sister. I know too well the pain of loss of a beloved family member to the cruelest of diseases. My 39-year brother, Christopher Hobler, lost his life to ALS in 2005, also leaving three little ones without their father. Before his death, Chris established Hope Happens and the Hope Center for Neurological Research in St. Louis. www.hopehappens.org. I will honor your daughter with a contribution to Hope Happens. No one, either patient or family, should have to suffer the helplessness and devastation of this tragic orphan disease. The day will come when there is a treatment for ALS and other neuro-degenerative illness. God bless Katherine.

Dear John and Kids,
We are so sorry to hear about Kathy. She was really a wonderful person, wife and mother. I will always remember the Easter with no air conditioning in Charleston. You were all troopers and never complained. We will all miss Kathy and our thoughts and prayers are with you, John, and your family.

Dear John, Kiley, James & Caroline,
We are so sorry for your loss. I remember Kathy as being larger than life and so in love with you John, and you with her. I'm glad you were blessed with each other and so sorry your time together here so short. Your blessings are many and in your children, you'll find Kathy and the strength you'll need to get up each day and go forward, together. I hope you and the children always find peace and resiliency in your little family circle.
Love & Hugs,
Daly-Anne, Ed, Julianna, and Isabella

As a friend of Patrick's living in Chicago, I never had the pleasure of meeting Kathy. Still, as Patrick shared her story with me over the years, I was struck by her courage and strength. I grew to admire her very much and she became an inspiration! My heart goes out to you all. Her life carries on in the wonderful legacy she leaves her children, John and everyone she touched!

Words cannot express how lucky we are to have had Kathy touch our lives. John and Kathy's relationship and shared sense of humor was a sight! The kids are so lucky to have had such a wonderful mommy. Kathy, you were one of a kind...one of the smartest and wittiest people I have known. I will think of you often. Love always
