KATHRYN ZORA Obituary

KATHRYN ELIZABETH EARL ZORA  November 10, 1959 - April 9, 2018
Kathryn Zora of Reston, Virginia passed away peacefully on April 9, 2018 surrounded by loved ones in her home. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 34 years, Glenn Zora; sons Benjamin and Kyle; sister Allison Earl Amram (Paco); niece Eva; nephew Antonio, and parents Lawrence Eugene Earl and Marilyn Parr Earl (deceased). She grew up with many friends in King's Park and at St. Stephens United Methodist Church, in Burke, VA. She played flute at Lake Braddock High School, for her churches, and later for the Reston Community Orchestra. She graduated from The College of William and Mary, and loved her college days. She used her degree in Economics to work with student statistics at both Fairfax County and at George Mason University. She was a devoted mother and friend, loving and leading her children and friends with her clever and humorous style that was unmistakably Kathy. She loved dressing up for Halloween, practical jokes, puns, and encouraging laughter. She enjoyed fellowship at the United Christian Parrish, serving on the building committee and as a trustee, and sharing her love of music. A Celebration of Life service for Kathy will be held at UCP in Reston on April 29, 2018. She was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.

I worked with Kathy for a number of years at Mason. She had the true Mason Spirit and was so enthusiastic about her work and all the events happening on campus. She was a lovely, clever person with a wonderful sense of humor. I remember one year when we pulled off an April Fool's Day prank that was so good that even GMU's former Provost got a kick out of it and sent us a congratulatory e-mail for fooling everyone. I will also remember her flair for Halloween and how she scared me multiple times with a fake crow she placed around the office. My sincerest thoughts and condolences go out to her family. I know that Mason will sorely miss this wonderful Patriot.

We met Kathryn when she and Glenn-my college days friend and companion-visited us here in California. We will miss her and wish her and Glenn's families our best wishes.

Kathy and I both started working together at George Mason around the same time. Over the years, we became good friends. I will always remember her April Fool's jokes and her witty banter. She had me in tears of laughter on a number of occasions. She also had a serious side and was a great listener, with a sincere caring for others. My deepest sympathies to her family.

Kathy was always open, friendly and encouraging to all. I knew her from work at Mason, but got to know her better through the Women's Training Program with Reston Runners. She and I participated together and she encouraged me so much. I miss her kindness and warmth. I am very sorry for your loss.

I worked with Kathy at Mason and enjoyed everything about her - always patient, kind, to the point, and ready to get the job done. I am so very sorry for your loss, and for Mason's loss. Thinking of her family and sending thoughts of peace and sympathy.

I have know Cathy since she was small child. She always had a smile and I specially noted that she treated everyone with utmost respect. After a little conversation, you could tell that she was a smart lady, but she never tried to impress people with her intelligence. She has left us and her family too soon.

My condolences to the family. May the peace of God and the fond memories you cherish comfort and sustain you in your time of need.

There was never a better neighbor and tireless volunteer for our children's schools and beloved Glade swim team. She offered support and friendship to me nine years ago when I lost my husband. She was always willing to lend a hand. I know her goodness and humor will live on in those who admired and loved her. My love and deepest sympathy to Glenn, Ben and Kyle.
