LAURA BARLOW ANTHONY  
Laura Barlow Anthony, age 64, passed away on December 8, 2011 at Sibley Memorial Hospital. A DC resident since 1970, she was an 11-year survivor of inflammatory breast cancer. She was well-regarded for her work with MMG, Inc. of Rockville, Md. as the manager of CME-accredited lecture series at the National Cancer Institute and the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. She was the first private citizen recipient of the NCI Clinical Sciences Director's Award for exceptional service in the planning and coordination of the 1999 NCI-All Ireland Cancer Consortium Conference in Belfast following the Good Friday Accord.Laura was an advocate for DC public schools. She graduated from St. Catherine's School in Richmond, Va., and from Wellesley College in 1969 with a B.A. in Art History. She was a creative spirit in all that she did in her work, in the community, among her friends, and with her family. Laura is the daughter of Laura Beatty Anthony (93) and the late David F. Anthony of Lynchburg, VA. She is survived by her husband of 35-years, Robert C. Leland; three children, Joshua A. Leland, Katherine M. Leland, and Jonathan B. Leland of Washington, D.C; two stepchildren, Robert S. Leland of Shepardstown, WV., and Amy B. Leland of Greenville, SC; and brothers David W. Anthony of Oneonta, NY, and Alexander F. Anthony of Richmond, VA.A funeral service, interment, and reception will be held on January 13, 2012 at St. Columba's Episcopal Church, 4201 Albemarle St. NW, Washington, DC at 11 a.m. Donations may be made in Laura's name to:Washington Women's Chorus , (www.washingtonwomenschorus.org) and Transitional Housing Corporation (www.thcdc.org)

I worked with Laura at ARHA in the late 70's. I remember her as a very smart, classy person. My deepest sympathies to her family and friends.
