I just found out that Laurel passed. We worked together at the Leary School years ago. Laurel was a very kind, caring, and giving woman. I know she is missed by the many who knew and loved her.

Laurel was so kind to me when I was new in DC and didn't know anyone. She welcomed me at church, met me for lunches, and talked with me endlessly about social justice. My prayers for your family.

I first met Laurel in 2001 when we worked together. I remember her keen sense of humor (dry, sarcastic, I loved it) and her ability to work well with people in crisis. She told me about her time living in Oaxaca Mexico and I told her how impressed I was by her daring to immerse herself in another country and culture. While I valued our friendship, I relieved she is finally at peace. She will be greatly missed.

I first met Laurel right after 9/11 when we worked together to assist DC workers impacted by the closures of National Airport and (temporary) decimation of the tourist industry. Around our office, I quickly noticed that her work ethic was tremendous, her empathy great, and her humor appreciated. Her friendship meant a lot to me over these many years. She will be greatly missed.
