LEON STRAUSS  
Leon Strauss, a pharmacist who was the first drug store owner in Washington, D.C. to integrate his lunch counter soda fountain in 1949, died peacefully on July 10, 2013 at his home in Chevy Chase, MD surrounded by his family. He was 91. His survivors include Phyllis, his wife of 64 years; three sons, Steven, Paul and Michael; two daughters-in-law, Ruth and Sharon, and seven grandchildren. The family is receiving visitors on Tuesday, July 16 between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. with Minyan at 7:30 at the Strauss residence.

I grew up and shopped daily where Leon Strauss owned his store in S.E. and worked for him from ages 14 to 21. He was like a father to me. I will never forget his kindness and generosity. He was a man who would help anyone. He greatly influenced my life.
