Linda Gummel Obituary

GUMMEL

LINDA FAYE GUMMEL (Age 80)

Of Chevy Chase, Maryland died peacefully in her sleep On Saturday, September 10, 2022. Born and raised a Kentucky coalminers' daughter to Violet Pauline Pratt Price and Thomas Jefferson Price, Sr. in the heartland of Appalachia, Linda was raised in meager surroundings along with her siblings Jean Burton (High Point, NC); Thomas Jefferson Price, Jr. (Kernersville, NC); and Larry Raymond Price, (Mullins, SC, deceased).

She moved to Washington, DC as a young woman and mother and learned the value of hard work, perseverance and giving to others in ways where she could make a long-lasting difference. Working over 30 years on Capitol Hill, Linda developed an expertise and reputation in casework, social programs and immigration issues. She had many friends, contacts and resources on Capitol Hill and was one of the esteemed "staffers" selected to train incoming freshman Congressional staffers and their electeds for many years. Her knowledge, experience, and particular passion to serve others made a tremendous impact to individuals and families, spanning generations and cultures both inside and outside of the United States.

Mrs. Gummel married twice - to an accomplished Marine Corps veteran, entrepreneur and most loving father, Mr. Roy Denison of Myrtle Beach, SC (deceased) - and a second marriage to an Army veteran and phone company retiree, Mr. Kenneth Gummel, of Temple Hills, Maryland (deceased). Mrs. Gummel is survived by two daughters - Mrs. Denise Denison-Erkeneff of Dana Point, CA and Ms. Dianne Denison of Easton, PA as well as three lovely grand-daughters, Ms. Elenna "Lulu" Magda Erkeneff, Ms. Emma Rae Erkeneff, and Ms. Camille Grace Denison. Over her 80 years of life, Linda made countless friends and acquaintances who often shared her passion for gardening, travel, dining and enjoying life to the fullest.

A memorial service and celebration of her wonderful life will be held at Pumphrey's Funeral Home in Chevy Chase, MD at a later date. Mrs. Gummel will be laid to rest at the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Washington, DC. The family requests donations be made to the Kline Hospice House in Mt. Airy, MD in lieu of flowers.

The family would like to also take a moment to provide special thanks to the wonderful staff of loving angels at the Kline House https://www.frederickhealthhospice.org, Phone: 301-829-0459.

Linda became like family to us over the years. She came to Ohio with our cousin Debi and would spend big holidays with us. She was kind and generous to all, and laughed as hard as anybody at the table when we all told our stories. She was a treasure, and we hated it when she could no longer return to Ohio due to her illness with our cousin. May she rest in peace. Her memory will be forever appreciated by her Ohio friends.
