LLOYD STANTON Obituary


LLOYD WINTER STANTON, JR.  
Died peacefully in Brooklyn, NY on Friday morning, February 19, 2016, with his son by his side, after a brief illness. Born to Lloyd Winter Stanton, Sr. and Maria del Refugio Garcia in Laredo, TX in 1927, Lloyd interrupted high school to enlist in the Navy in 1945; called up for the Korean War, he attained the rank of Motor Machinist''s Mate, 3rd Class. He graduated with a Bachelor''s of Business Administration from the University of Texas. Lloyd worked over 30 years for the U.S. Government. He met his wife to be, Billie Ward, at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, where they had adjoining desks and shared a telephone. They married in 1962. In 1969, they moved to Annandale. Lloyd retired as a contract negotiator for the General Services Administration in 1986. He spent the last months of his life in Brooklyn, living near his son, where he made many new friends. Lloyd was an exuberant, joyful, compassionate man, a devoted husband and heroic caregiver to his wife of over 50 years, and a loving father. His wife predeceased him in 2013. He is survived by his sister, Mary Walsh of San Antonio; his son, Robert Stanton of Brooklyn; his stepdaughter, Linda Hammon and her husband, Cliff Hammon of New Braunfels, TX; his stepson, Brian Ward and his wife, Sepideh Habibi of Vienna, VA; his step-grandchildren, Jeff Hammon of McKinney, TX, Kenneth Hammon of Chicago, IL, Beth Hammon of San Marcos, TX and Justin Ward of Vienna; and four step-great-grandchildren. Viewing at Demaine Funeral Home, Springfield, Monday, February 29 at 11:30 a.m. Graveside service at Quantico National Cemetery at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations be made to the American Lung Association or Annandale Volunteer Fire Department.

I have wonderful memories of my friendship with Lloyd and Billie over 30 years when I worked with Billie at NAVSEA. They were both such loving parents to their children and grandchildren and also wonderful friends.

Eddie and I are terribly sorry for your lose. You and the family are in our prayers and I know that the Lord will give you strength and peace at this time. I am very sorry for your loss. Though I did not know Lloyd, I do know Robert and what a fine man he is as well as the love and respect he has always had for his father, so I can only imagine what a wonderful man Lloyd was and how much all of you will miss him. My condolences.
